My car has a leaking transmission seal and I can't afford to get it fixed so..... is there anyone out there who knows about these things and would like a good car to fix up. Honestly, the only reason it's not being used is this transmission seal leak, up until then it was being driven without any problems, it still has about 6 months of registration on it but as it can't be driven anywhere it hasn't got a warrant. The roof is a bit sun worn with that gloss coat stuff parting company with the paint but apart from that, it's a 20 year old car that has just had a new cam belt fitted and is up to scratch in everything else.
It's a station wagon, 4wd and Blimey Vicki will back me up when I say it pulled my ute, with five bales of not so light hay, out of her barn paddock after I'd been stuck there for an hour. It pulled that ute out with no hassle whatsoever and didn't falter, no wheel spinning or skidding, nothing.

SO! If you're handy with that sort of thing, fixing something like a transmission seal I mean..... it really needs a new home before the wreckers man comes to take it away.... It's a GT Ford Telstar and doesn't have a massive mileage. Pretty clean and tidy for it's age, the only damage is where the mice got in and chewed through some wires but all the necessary ones were fixed, it's just the bleeper for when the lights are left on and the backing bleeper thing and the button for unlocking the back from the drivers seat... remote locking thingy.... it can still be locked without any problem, it's just the handy button thing for unlocking it doesn't work.... oh and there is slight chewing on the hand brake handle..... thankyou Pilots puppy teeth, but that works without any problems, it's just cosmetic damage. The the car wrecker said he'd give me $300 for it,,, I'm just loathed to send it to it's death, sentimental fool that I am. It's just because of this one seal and I've been told it will cost about $600 to get to the bit that needs fixing.. which will cost about $25 or something.... I've talked to the local mechanic and he's optimistic that it won't have any damage to the other bits cos it wasn't driven very far once the seal went.

It really is, a bloody good car. Seats are ok, no rips or wear and tear

It can't be driven, obviously at this stage, so a car trailer would be needed to rehome it. Oh, it doesn't have a tow bar cos I never got around to having one fitted.

PM me.

The tyres alone will be worth more than the $300 the wrecker is offering you. He's robbing you blind. If it were me I'd park it up somewhere dry for the future. Right now it's at the worthless old shitbox stage of life. In fifteen years or so it will be rare and collectable. Yes, even a Telstar has a chance to become a treasured oldie when there are very few of them left.

I agree with Igor, Wreckers always buy LOW and make buyers pay through the nose at horrendous prices.

It can be cheaper to buy a complete car off trademe than to get a motor from the wrecker...

I would part it out on trademe, the wheels and tyres would probably go for $300 for the set, Engine probably around $500, half the price that a wrecker charges, but more than he wants just for that part. Radiator would probably be around $50, windscreen $75-100...

You get the idea, that car once parted out would probably make you around $1500 and a scrap metal man would come round with a hiab truck and cart it off for the metal leaving you with $100 in your hand afterwards.

Just specify on your trademe advert "buyer is to bring tools and remove the parts" as you don't want to be hassled with having to unbolt stuff yourself :P

If you trust them to strip the parts they want without damaging lots of other saleable parts in the process.
