Any recommendations? My current AMI premiums are horrendous.

FMG too - quick to respond, quick to pay out - sometimes even just over the phone; helpful, sent someone out to measure and assess house, land and all my contents (including the horse gear I have). Best lifestyle package I could find.

I'm with state and was surprised how cheap it was. Fortunately have never had to claim yet so can't comment on that side of things.

Haven't actually been able to get a cheaper quote than AMI (do try every now and then).

Give your Client Business Manager a ring and advise them what is happening. Often the Branch you are dealing with won't know about the accident straight away and therefore can't give you extra assistance (if they can)with the Claims department. If you haven't had a personal meeting with your CBM, you could perhaps ask them to come out to review your whole cover just to make sure everything is right! Amazing what personal contact, a bright personality and muffins may achieve!

Hmmm I wasn't going to mention it but as MM has...

I was run into by a black cow on a dark night on the road. Said black cows owner rang FMG who assured him he would be covered. When our insurance company chased him up to pay for the damage they changed their mind, he had to pay for it himself. (He appears to have just paid, I'd have been yelling insurance ombudsman and Fairgo)

The insurance ombudsman sorted out a case for me many years ago now MM where the insurance company swore my car was worth a very small amount - about 25% of what it was insured for. After I discussed it on the phone with the insurance ombudsmans office - about an hour after to be exact - they changed their minds and got it revalued by another car dealer who thought it was worth 90% of the insured value.

Thanks for that DiDi and wino, I'll pass that onto BD he's much better at it all than me! I just get bloomin' angry!

They aren't that far off the mark, but it still needs to go up a bit more then BD will settle!

FMG - the best sevice, coverage, prices and quick to sort out claims.

came out, had a good look around, measured the buildings, answered a whole lot of silly questions from us (being new to rural living) and sorted out a good package for house, car, contents and extra moral obligation cover all for several hundered $ less than our old company.

I note FMG car premiums are the lowest I have seen - I rang around a few companies when we moved as NZI who we used to be with increased our premiums despite our value on the car being dropped. FMG were brilliant last year in sorting the car out after a prang, and paid for a hire car for the time ours was off the road (you need to get this extra added in on your policy).

I think the main thing to look at is who the underwriter is, not the "face"" of the policy. For instance for our house insurance it is with BNZ however underwritten by IAG. Our landlord preferred policy is now underwritten by NZI and I still haven't had claim acceptance for the small bit of contents coverage for the burned house back in october....
