I have heard of so many in the past 2 years that now need vit B 12 jabs because of a deficiencey. Its weird as you hardly heard of it before. Something to do with modern life I reckon.

I've got some of ya need it Kalnetta! Do ya want me to jab yer too!
I used to get Psoriasis years ago,had it on my elbows, knees, over my hands and in my hair. When I was pregnant with my son it cleared up and it's never come back! Never had much luck with any treatment and always worried about the steroid creams. I didn't mind having it but I used to hate the comments, Oh my god what have you done to yourself! etc etc.
Off to google B12

A friend's son was B12 deficient - he was on a vegan diet and when diagnosed, they reintroduced egg to his diet, and that helped improve things.
Could it also be a little diet attributable, kalnetta? Just a thought ...

I have mainly heard of older people having this, ie. my late father was found to have it in his late 70s and we wondered if it was something to do with all the drugs he was taking for his Parkinsons Disease.[?]
Having said that, I worked with a woman who was found to have it and she was only thirty years old, not a vegetarian, and otherwise healthy:)
Maybe there testing methods have improved and that is why they are picking up more case of it? Just a though.

Don't they give B12 injections to our animals with selenium deficiency? Something to do with inability to uptake the selenium I think. And since we know NZ soil is usually deficient in that mineral could that be why more people need the B12? Just wondering aloud.

A lack of "intrinsic Factor" causes B12 deficiency in humans. In Ruminants the bacteria need cobalt to produce B12 for the animal. Cobalt is the central ion in Vitamin B12.
Jeannielea, you are confusing selenium with cobalt.
