Blood test finally

Blood test finally was created by Ghilly
I'm supposed to get a blood test done around every three months but being a real whimp and excellent procrastinator....

Well I went and dragged myself in yesterday on an impulse. We were parked in the Pharmacy car park next door so I figured I may as well just get it over with.

The Nurse couldn't find the 'whatever it is' on the computer..... owing to the fact that the last time I had a blood test was when Medlab was still doing the tests [:I]

She phoned me today to tell me the results were back (already? That was quick!) and they're high for liver and iron... so I have to go back in a week for another test, plus they're going to do a fasting test as well......

One result, can't remember what for, is supposed to be around 50 something and it's 67 which explains a lot.... well not in so many words maybe but that may be the reason I see black when I stand up and feel like I've had no sleep for a week.

Bum!

hi ya Yakut...the black when you stand too quick is blood pressure.. if they were supposed to be checking liver function on a blood test.. it should have been a fasting one anyway.. so dont worry about the results you have..they could have been skewed completly by what you have eaten/drunk [:I].. if the past 24 hours...

i am always being trotted off for that blood test..seems to be the 'in' thing.. or maybe my doctor just knows me too well :)

I had had three cups of coffee no food so, nothing to eat, but this is normal for me. They're checking for a protein alpha 1 something.. I know what it is but can't think of it right now. .... Oh alpha 1 anti tryspin deficiency.

I have no idea what I need to do to get that back.. possibly cut down on eating certain proteins, like eggs (there go the omelets) cheese and things.

I learned a long time ago that alcohol was out so I don't drink. I get really niggly when I'm told to not drink any alcohol for 6 weeks then come back for another test. "I don't drink" I tell them but I still had to wait for 6 weeks before having another test. hey ho.

I have, on a scale of 1 to 10, about an energy level of 3 at the moment.
I have managed to move the electric fence today and my arms feel like I've been lugging around 40kg sacks of feed all day, what a sad git! LOL

Nah, coffee doesn't keep me awake, chocolate covered coffee beans however...... never again! I only had a few, didn't like them that much and I was bouncing off the walls.... same with that Ghana chocolate. Turned into a total fidget. I can have a flat white or three and not have a problem going to sleep... if anything I was half asleep after the 3 coffee's and have been like that all day today too.

My problem is I can't switch my head off. No matter how tired my body is my mind keeps whirring away. Some people have a sort of clock in them that says, 'right you're tired, go to bed' but my mind just doesn't get to that tired state, that's not saying I'm alert, I couldn't think my way out of a wet paper bag, it's just that the wet paper bag would go from a bag to a cardboard box to a wet tissue etc.... if that makes sense.......

Those who know me know what I'm talking about.

Actually, re reading this post, you may get an idea of how my mind bounces from one thing to another with analogies and metaphors that are only in my head so anyone else wonders what the hell I'm going on about.....

Even when I can barely keep my eyes open, my head is still switched on and I don't know where the off switch is.

After the earthquake, a lady in the health shop recommended rescue remedy sleep to me. I'm not sure whether it was psychosymatic, but it did seem to help calm my racing brain at night.

Can't be the coffee keeping you awake. I have 8 - 10 cups of coffee most days and I sleep just fine. Research done in Finland a few years ago found that was a good healthy level of consumption. The article I read also mentioned that the Finns are among the highest users of coffee in the world though.

The trueth about most things like coffee reseach is that there are so many done that there so many different results, always one to prove what we want to hear :D :D

Oh yes, I have pills... I think my problem changes, sometimes I just can not sleep no matter how tired I am, and sometimes whatever switch is used to say "Oi, you're tired, go to bed" doesn't work.

I have a little collection of audio books and so far, I have managed to fall asleep half way through the second CD of Wind in the Willows. I think I've only heard it right through once. I don't listen to one 'side' then the other, I just leave the CD in the player and push play each night, when I get sick of listening to one CD, I'll change it to the second CD.

Right now my problem is being tired all the time and I mean waking up tired. I have just fed the chooks, changed their water and put Hanukkah in the kid pen for her extras and I could fall asleep sitting up. Once the second blood test is in, the Dr will hopefully be able to decide on a course of action. Probably giving blood... I have no idea what will be done about the high liver function test. Combined, these two things have me half comatose with a tendency to feel squiffy at the drop of a hat. Pain in the neck really, I can traipse about half asleep and then I suddenly feel disgusting.

eemm.. does make it difficult to function.. if it is high iron, then the solution ( one of ) is regular blood donations..odd but true.. drain some blood every month...
it is aweful thow.. i think back to what i used to be able to do in a day,,now its one hour and i need a nanna nap.. ( oh and that sooo helps the sleeping pattern.. NOT )
oh well .. am taking 6 weeks off work and hopefully will get self back on even keel.. good sleep ins and exercise.. and no work stress
good luck with the next test.. and, as you say, then dr will know where to go from there..

Yeah, I know about the blood donations... my sister is low in iron so I said I'd send her some LOL....

Way way back when, Barbers were also the village Drs..... and dentists..... no real skill required..... the cure for a lot of things was letting blood. This is where the Barbers pole came into effect. The patient would have their hand tied to the top of a stick and the 'Dr' would cut the arm so the blood drained down the stick and into a bowl the stick was in... CHARMING I'm sure!!!!

My Dad is a retired Barber but I doubt he'd have been willing to perform this sort of cure all. LOL

Every little thing becomes a major task at the moment.. Kim and Pilot helped me get the goats into the neighbours paddock and by the time I'd got back to the front of the house to come inside things were starting to go black, as in, my eyes were seeing black. Sometimes it clears fast and other times I have to bend over and put my hands on my knees and my head down and wait for it to pass... so far I haven't had to sit or lie down. Weird! Not scary though. just weird.

My Father has haemachromatosus, which is the overproduction of iron and so does the bloodletting. Did the doc check your thyroid levels? That is a very common cause of fatigue and the overactive can't sleep symptoms.

I agree with Robinsons Folly, as I have Thyroid problems, and its only since the DR changed my tablets from those bad ones last year, that I have any energy at all. I spent last week repairing our cattle yards, maybe not perfect in a mans eyes, but the cattle dont know that its all wired and stapled together, and its all bluff, but it still looks good, even the horses now respect what they can see.

HbA1c is a check on long term blood glucose levels. Everyone should ask the doctor for one to be done when they get a blood test done, as well as the blood glucose level at the time. Finding Type 2 diabetes before it has caused a heart attack or blindness is hugely easier than after you have had either of those.
I quite know the feeling about blood tests. Even after having thousands of them (and having injected myself more than 30,000 times) I really dislike other people with needles. Even though I know that it is only the thought that hurts .....
