We have a pre-loved oncrete trough that I have just watered up. Once filled I discovered it has several large cracks, not enough to be unstable, but enough to create a wee puddle in the dirt.
Emptying it won't be a problem, what is best to 'paint' the inside with to make it water-tight again?

I see you shiver in anticip......................................................................................ation

Hi, Empty the trough out, let the trough totally dry out, mix up a some sand and cement to a plaster consistency and put it on the trough where the cracks are. Let it dry and you will have it sealed. Cheers.

Grandfather used to mix cement plaster for patching broken concrete at a ratio of 3 sand to 1 cement. Probably overkill but better than not enough.

there is a bitumen based waterproofing product called Mulseal or Flintcoat that we use behind underground walls when we are building. Not sure if it is ok for drinking troughs but it does a pretty good job!!

Here is where I get shot down but if you put "pva" glue or you can get special concrete glue stuff, thick "pva" I dont know modern brand name. Put this is into and around crack then mix some in plaster it will help it stick also it helps make it water proof. We have just bought bagged plastering mix and it worked All the best

Theres also a product called 'tankseal' or something like that; tar based. Designed for repairing cracks in concrete water tanks. Works well on gutters (don't ask) but an absolute b**h to get off your hands. It says wear gloves on the tin, but me being me didn't bother. It wore off eventually. Fixed the leaks though, so would recommend it. Also fixed the largish crack in the tank with the help of chicken netting, didn't wear gloves that time either :)
