I have always had a notion that this whole Global Warming thing is a scam. As I had mentioned to Jas (Wifey) - I firmly beleive that would be due to the Earth slipping on it's Axis - then I find this! www.divulgence.net/

Now who is kidding who just to make more money!!

Who knows - North may have beenn south at some stage. May be that's why the dinasaurs died out, and Noah had to build an Ark to survive the flood (estimated this time be rise to 20 stories high should the caps melt). Also would explain the massive seas and the volatile seismic activity in that era!

Just a thought[;)]

Of course it's a scam. I'm very glad to find someone else who recognises that. Even if it was true there's nothing New Zealand could do that would have any measurable effect because we are so little. It's just another excuse to raise a new tax. And even if we could control the world's climate, which we can't, should we?

It is a scam through and through for the new world order (how paranoid is that?) to get richer on their belief that the "commoners" out there will not understand their bogus science.

Let's get one thing straight. If you blow up a balloon, obviously your breath is CO2, does it fly to the roof? Hell is like. It drops to the floor and thank goodness as without CO2 dropping to the ground at night, we would have not grass. Simplistic but real.

Too right! Air has a specific gravity of 1.000 whereas CO2 has 1.5189. I must be thick because to me that indicates that CO2 won't mysteriously float up into the high atmosphere and cause this insulating layer.

Govt will tax anything that moves or is stationary for that matter, if they can get away with it.

Death duties was the best one, as no one could avoid that.
Now the rich are in control we don't have death duties anymore.
Strange that.

We also had a poll tax on other ethnic groups not so very long ago.

Oh & don't forget the tax you pay on a tax, like GST on excise.
Oh no no says the Govt that is not a tax that is a levy. B*****ds [B)]
They will tax warming & if that does not work they will tax cooling.

I am very happy about GST, it means it get EVERYONE. whether they are nicking stuff, flogging the social security system, just plain working hard, or working and offsetting existing taxable losses, it gets EVERYONE regardless.

Of course global warming is real. Lots and lots of people believe it is, so it must be. I remind you of that science that was postulated by possibly the greatest scientist the world has known, Aristotle. He presumed that the Earth was the centre of the Universe, and he was right for about 1600 years. Even the people that communicated directly with God, the Popes, believed that and put people to death for questioning the postulation. So, because everybody believes in Global Warming then it must be true.
And NZ can do something very practical to prevent it. We have a little volcanic island off the Bay of Plenty, that if a hydrogen bomb was put into, would make enough dust to give us about 10 years of winter .... like Krakatoa did.

Truth hurts too much I guess:rolleyes: Especially when you don't know what to do about it!

The only other time it was recorded to have happened I believe, the populations must have taken it as a fact of life. Now, with all the technology we have, they have become so accustomed to controlling everything that the think they can manipulate the very thing that keeps us alive - Nature. Question is; Will this manipulation only make things worse:confused:

Yep, I'm all for Consumption based Tax. The sooner the world slows down its consumer binge the better. Pretty soon we'll all be living next to landfills. Everyone watched the story of stuff?

Up the GST, reduce the income tax to a low flat rate. That way those who spend more pay more tax, those who save more pay less tax. This encourages saving. It also encourages growth in business investment and creates jobs. Too simple? Also nothing to do with the real subject of this discussion thread but the GST issue was raised and deserved an answer.

Okay, I made a snide comment to HS on another thread about not having to believe what scientists say, so I thought I'd better come and stand under the shower here.

I do believe in global warming or climate change or whatever you want to call it, and I find it puzzling that lsbers, who are such practical people, used to observing their little patch, doing mini-experiments and finding out what works and doesn't, have such a low opinion of the scientific method and the increasing body of knowledge, that they can decide that their own opinion is more valid.

Three main reasons I know - the difference between observing what's just out the door and the whole global picture, as Igor alluded to; the huge amount of bad and mis-information that's floating round that make all opinions seem equally valid; and our human tendency to stick with the ideas that make us feel safest - I'm right there, too!

I know I won't change any minds, and don't see any point into getting into a debate, but just remember we're all scientists, and we all believe in evidence, so why not for the big stuff?
