It's doomed. He's jinxed it by giving her his mother's ring.

I think they waited this long so as not to make the mistakes his parents did. They know each other very well, and there is none of the same stiffness of an "arranged" marriage.

I'd have to agree with igor and witheze. I was surprised he'd given her Diana's ring because I think it's incredibly bad karma.

I understand how close he was to his mum, and the thought is nice, but with all that surrounds Diana, I wouldn't have used Diana's engagement ring as the engagement ring for my fiancee, even another of Diana's rings may have been a better choice, and given Diana's engagement ring later.

Anyway, it is about time, and hopefully they'll have a good life together.

Anything Diana wore is jinxed. Clods is right. Diana was never going to be a good match for Charles. He should have married Camilla back then.

eemm i have to agree.. the ring thing is a little creepy.. maybe as a gift yes, but as THE engagement ring.. nah.. Katie should have had her own ring from william... she could wear the saffire number on the other hand if william wants a reminder of his mum there on the day

Whatever ring she picked (or he) it was always going to be compared to Di's ring so they might as well get on with it, use her ring (I wear my grandmother in law's engagement ring as mine when I go out and she hasn't haunted me yet) in these tough economic times (be seen to be recycling) and get on with it as everyone has expected them to do so.

Good luck to them, but let's not have the media circus where the slightest detail overtakes proper (is there any?) news.

That would have been very poor form since she was already married "back then"

I believe that Kate will be well aware that she will marry an "establishment" but she is obviously a good choice for William, since their relationship has stood the time test pretty well. Good luck to them both. They ought to be able to breed some good looks into the royal family at least.........[}:)] Unless of course any issue inherit Charles' ears, and the DoE's unfortunate affliction of his foot in his mouth. :p As for Karma, well the 30,000 Eng. pound price tag ought to go a long way to fixing that.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

Can't help but saying (because I know it was probably a bit tongue in cheek) about the 30,000 price tag - I just have to remind myself constantly - that money doesn't solve everything, nor buy happiness :D [;)]
