I am off to Aussie! Working for a contracting company ( www.foxag.com.au near a town called Mansfiled a couple hours North of Melbourne!

Certainly a twist in my life that wasn't expected as such, but certainly very excited at what lies ahead!

Only found out this morning, and of left within a couple weeks [B)]

I thought you are with the Police now? Does this mean that NZ Police has lost another police officer?

Or should I rather just say 'congratulations'??

Congratulations! Does this mean you're not joining the police next year or is it a stopgap? I love Melbourn - it's a great city.

You did this before in Western Australia didn't you? And it didn't end well...so I guess this time you've asked all the right questions :D

BTW, what exactly does your last sentence mean???[}:)]

Cheers

Its a stop gap with the Police, im still on the waiting list, still waiting to be called up. Its a fair bit of a wait for people like me, as the "300 extra cops" quota has been filled, so the intake has been cut right back. At this point in time, I wouldnt get to college before April next year, and this job is most likely only until May.

Also my current job with the Police was only a fixed term contract which was about to end, so needed to find something else. This job is offering pay and conditions which I would be silly to turn down!

I screwed up that last sentence, meant to be that I will be gone within about 2 weeks all going well!

As for my last trip to Aus, yes this has involved a lot more research and discussion over the last 2 weeks!

Also, technology advancements...Google Earth! Its amazing, given me the opportunity to 'look around' the town etc so to speak, and to know how far out of town I will be living etc where as last time I went in a bit blind and found myself a couple of hours from nowhere, and living with people that were relatively unsociable...

Hey, great news.

Mount Buller is not far from there. I was a ski instructor (in a previous life) and worked at Mount Buller in 1972. I really enjoyed it and at the end of the season a whole lot of us rented a houseboat and went out on Lake Eildon. I think that Aussie movie The Castle was made around there. Next town up from Mansfield is Merrijig and then it starts to climb up to Mt Buller, I think. I'm sure it's all changed now.

Best of luck!

Beedee - I knew I worded that badly! What I meant was that it will be so developed throughout those towns and the lake now. I've looked up Mt Buller on the internet & have seen their trail maps etc. Can see that it's definitely been developed quite a bit since I was there (nearly 40 years ago). Hasn't moved though!

Go Fencerman, we want lots of reports & pictures please.

Mansfield is a nice place. Spent a night there in April last year as we travelled north from Melbourne. Few nice wineries in that neck of the woods :p

The motelier recommended 'Mingo's Bar and Grill' as the best eatery in town. Good feed it was too :D
