Chutney recipe calls for black mustard seeds. Can't find anywhere in shops & supermarket staff don't know what I'm talking about.

Any ideas in the Manawatu?

Thanks.

Hi -- I've purchased from here in the recent past, as I wasn't able to source it locally either:

Ha! I now see these folks are local(ish) to me, and I can go into their shop in Chch! I never even looked to see where they were when I ordered. [:I][:I]

Thanks for that.

I'll probably use yellow mustard seeds in the meantime. Next time I'm in Petone (just out of Wellington) I'll have a look in some of the shops there. They have several foodie specialist shops.

Thanks again.

Shops that sell Indian food supplies will have black mustard seed.

I get mine from the Indian supermarket in Christchurch
( www.discountfw.co.nz/ )

Their prices for nuts and other spices are also good. (if you dont mind your nuts tasting a little of indian spices that is ;) I dont mind AT ALL!)

Have you tried Davis Trading (Main St opp. Te Manawa) - they have a large range of spices, or else the chinese stores like Dong Sheng (Rangatikei St), there's Moshims on College St, and the the indian shop on the cnr of cook and Ferguson st?

If you cant find it I'm pretty sure I've got some here

Morioka, thanks for that. Why didn't I think of Davis Trading?

I'm missing a few of the other ingredients so won't be making it until I've been to town so will definitely go via Davis Trading. They have a great stock of all sorts of things.

It's for Majarajah's chutney from one of Alison & Simon Holsts crock pot books.

Thanks again.
