How Does Facebook Get My Mobile Number?

I see on my account details that Facebook has listed my mobile number.

I don't give it out to anybody nor do I write it on forms (I live out of range).

I've removed it.

Some people have reported that Facebook requests a mobile number when you initially join up, so that it can send a TXT to verify your account. I don't remember this happening when I joined, but it's a while ago, so maybe it did?

In any case, it's very easy to delete from your profile.

Is it harvesting the information from someone else's profile of you in their address/contacts list?

I think it's as Grant says. I probably provided it to get Facebook up & running - I have vague recollections of that.

No, it won't be harvesting from anybody else's profile - nobody's got my number.

I would definately say you at some stage put it in. Mine isnt on my account.

If you have posted to Facebook with your mobile at any stage, they could have got it that way?

I've only ever posted on Facebook once & that was on somebody else's page yesterday.

I don't use my mobile for anything other than an alarm clock in the mornings and if I need it on the road in the event of vehicle trouble or delays. I live out of range so, at this point in time, it's more of a hassle than a help to give out my number. I write N/A on all forms and if it's electronic & a compulsory field I enter 021 000 0000 and that takes care of that!
