The TV I have is 2nd hand. When TV1 is on there is text at the bottom of the screen all the time. It's the dialogue of the programme. It's a bit like the translation when another language is being spoken, but isn't.

I don't need it as I'm not deaf and just wondered if there's any way I can get rid of it.

I don't have the manual. It's a Phillips 29PT449AFastext. I have a remote for it.

If it can't be done, never mind. Just thought somebody might know if it was possible.

Thanks.

Are you watching TV1 directly off air (from an aerial) or via a Sky Decoder?

Your teletext decoder is probably set to the captioning page. Read about it here:

tvnz.co.nz/view/tvnz_story_skin/413580?format=html

Just turn teletext off (probably a button market with a rounded rectangle with horizontal lines in it, or marked 'text').

Or if you are watching via a Sky decoder, the "Closed Captioning" may have turned itself on. We have been having trouble with this lately, especially on TV1.

Thanks. Tried a couple of buttons & the 2nd one gave me the option of disabling subtitles. I even managed to highlight the disable, click OK & bingo! It worked.

Great to have the whole screen & not be trying to following the words at the bottom.

Thanks again everybody.

Great news :)

So are you watching via a Sky decoder or directly off-air from an aerial?
