Computer issues - Grant???
It's not only happening on here, but on other sites as well. I've tried turning the pop up blocker off but no luck so far.
The updates are the only thing I can think of that may have caused this. The other thing is I'm nearing the maximum of my broadband allowance this month but I can't see that this would affect it??? Any other ideas/suggestions pleeeeeease :confused::confused:

What is happening is that the action normally associated with Hyperlinks, has somehow become dis-associated. I have never struck this one: Anybody else?
Probably the first thing to do is uninstall the latest updates one by one until normal service resumes. Then you will know which update caused the problem, and can reinstall the others.

The fact you have got here and posted means you can open most links, the thing specific about the geese is that it opens in a new window, so try this:
support.microsoft.com/kb/281679
If Kate has external urls in posts set to open in a new window, then copy/paste this url

Obviously, as GrantK has suggested you could remove some of the updates you've done but sometimes this can cause further issues. FWIW I don't allow updates at all, having had several machines automagically break because of them. I might add that, by several, I mean upwards of fifty or more at any one time...

After looking at both of those links I couldn't see anything different about them. They aren't enshrouded in Javascript, but "New Window" explains it!

That process is probably a bit intimidating for the average PC user.
It may well be simpler to install Firefox as Phaedrus suggested. Having tried it, you will probably not bother using IE again.

IE8 causes too many compatibility issues so I actually converted to FF 12 months ago and hated the first couple of weeks.....I wouldn't be without it now. Wonderful browser

.....thinking about it further I've seen IE8 in compatibility mode display this behaviour with links too

The option I use is the one which says:Phaedrus;322393 wrote: FWIW I don't allow updates at all, having had several machines automagically break because of them.
"Notify me that Updates are available, but don't download or install them".
That way I can control when/if such downloads and installations occur. Otherwise we could be away somewhere, and my weather computer could get stuffed up. By manually controlling the updates, it's easier to check that everything is normal after installation.

The updates are just the usual Explorer, Adobe, Messenger etc - when I get sick of them popping up in front of me all the time I update them. I wouldn't have a clue how to even find out which ones were the most recently updated so I'll download Firefox first and if it's still not a happening thing, I'll be back for instructions!
