Heart problems... was created by FencerMan
On Wednesday evening I had a slight pain in my chest (on my right side!) when I moved...Commented about it to my flatmate, and she consequently told me to "harden up"[xx(]

Thursday morning woke up with it being constant, and after a couple hours figured I probably had a chest infection, as I had a cold a couple weeks back and still havnt shaken it completely. Wandered off down to my GP, who was a little bit concerned, so he did an ECG on me, and then got a whole lot more concerned...

An hour later and im in ED at Middlemore...Chest pain seems to be the way to go, no waiting time what so ever lol[;)]

Anyway...More ECG's, some blood tests, consultant examination, 2 more ECG's, night in hospital, another blood test - and then a nurse filled me in and said everybody was talking about me and "they" dont know what is wrong with me...and that my ECG results are very odd for someone who is 25, usually fit and healthy, and with no previous health problems at all.

An ECHO (?) determined there was nothing actually wrong with my heart, blood tests still came back with nothing out of the ordinary. They eventually decided I have Pericarditis, so another night in Hospital. This morning another ECG which came back ok...so I am now back home :) But still no real diagnoses on what caused the irregularity in the ECG's in the first place!

Everyone seems to bitch about it, but big thumbs up :) to all the Nurses and Doctors that worked on me and Middlemore. Seemed to be very thorough with me on the whole.

Makes you realise you never know whats around the corner however, and to stay healthy and make the most of things when you can :)

Do something.

Gosh, FM you are young to start having ticker problems.. if it was pericarditis then its a good 6wks rest.. and 18yr olds can have myocardial infarctions with no other medical history .
So take care and leave the hospital visits for the oldies eh!

A while back, I had a bout of flu which left me with a heart problem that lasted a few years. Apparently, according to my GP, virus's can leave behind toxins which can lodge anywhere. Headaches following flu is a classic one, but they can also cause mischief in the heart and lead to arrhythmia, tachycardia or angina or in the pancreas and lead to diabetes, or in the liver and lead to similar symptoms to jaundice.
Diet can help with some of these, but not all. Often it is time that helps the body to rid itself of the toxins. A diet high in anti-oxidants may support healing also.

And it doesn't matter how old a person is, but age can have a bearing on the time it takes to heal completely.

Did you know, that what you thought I said, was not what I meant :S

Damn FB. One of my daughters as a weird heartbeat that was diagnosed after a treadmill heart test so understand this can be very worrying and as Stikkibeak pointed it, pericaritis can be viral from a cold. One of those things that no one can give a full answer too. No doubt you have Googled and already worked that out so just know to take things easy for a while ok! Thinking of you.

FM sounds similar to what hubby had to go in for on Boxing Day and they never found the cause of it - and right as rain now! There was a whole room of 'non cardiac chest pain' folk with him overnight, all with the same problem - pain that felt like heart, but wasn't.

Good that you checked it out, and shame on your flatmate for the 'harden up' comments :( anything to do with this is not to be taken lightly and should be checked out by a doctor, regardless of your age or fitnes...

Having had similar ED experiences for chest/heart related symptoms with no clear reason found despite treadmill testing and the usual investigative stuff I have now discovered the common factor in at least two of the events - MSG [:0]

I seem to have developed a sensitivity to MSG (E621) that produces thumping heart, elevated blood pressure and (understandably) feelings of anxiety. It possibly is compounded by a niggling back injury at shoulder blade level that generates heart/adrenal 'stimulation', but a meal of cheap Chinese or anything branded Maggi will have me feeling much the worst for wear.

Also known as 'Chinese restaurant syndrome' apparently, my sister in law suffers from this too and has been caught a couple of times when she didn't think a meal had MSG in it and it did. Many of the Chinese takeaways/restaurants around here have notices up saying 'no MSG' or similar...

How do you know what 'House' is? lol [;)]

My problem was that it was my heart...The ECG (dont know what that stands for, but its the thingy that measures the electrical current in your body) had an irregularity, and they dont think its related, at least directly, to the Pericarditis.

Its only that on day three it seemed to come right by itself without them actually treating me for anything that they let me go home.

Enjoy being back at work TKF, im off still today, hopefully will go back tomorrow if im feeling ok when I wake up :)

One thing that made me laugh was when I first went in, and the ED nurse was dealing with me, he was talking about a guy he had just dealt with who was an Ironman competitor and how he had such a low heart rate of 45. Then he took mine and it was 42! That bothered them a little lol :D

Having a knock in your engine is a bit scary.

The Paracetamol is an anti inflammatory.
Pericarditis is inflammation of the pericardium (the fibrous sac surrounding the heart).
Catching bugs is one thing; the complications that can follow if you don't look after yourself, is a whole other ball game.

Go strait to bed with Grannies cure all next time :D

My favourite is Hot water, lemon, ginger, nutmeg, honey & a good slosh of Whisky.

Maybe I should just take it as a preventative [}:)]
