Annual flu jab was created by ronnie
Had my annual flu jab on Friday afternoon. As usual, the injection spot flared up and became rather red and very hot. Have been feeling like cr*p since and today definately feel a cold coming on - the usual running nose, then blocked nose, dry eyes, no energy, general unwell feeling etc etc etc.

is this totally co-incidental????

Can't remember this happening in the past, but the jab has a new strain added this year.

Am far too busy to be unwell, so would rather this bug or whatever just go on its merry way and leave me alone.

Thanks terralee. I usually get the arm swelling stuff but don't remember this cold being attached to it.

Mr Ronnie is on his final weeks at work. He has gone to day shift and has been told they have a full week this week, and probably a half week next week then that will be his season over - as soon as the final 2 night shift chains finish. But from past experience, that could change any day. My season is also on its last legs - working tomorrow at Winton then Sunday also at Winton then 2 meetings before the end of May and no more till August :(

I don't know which of the 3 different vaccines that The Manager and I had, but we were both fine afterwards.

I get a sore arm and often feel a bit sniffly and off for a couple of days. I figure my immune system's just under load and take it easy until I feel better. Better that than the potential 10-14 days knockdown sometime during the winter if I get a really nasty bug! Or worse, that it should hit just before calving, when things start getting busy again.

Stephan had one for the first time this year and was surprised how sore his arm was for several days.

I stopped getting them a few years back for exactly those reasons. I worked on my immune system for a couple of years and now only get the winter colds and flu once or twice a season and then to a lessor degree than most others I know.
I take a natural remedy at the first signs of a bug and allow any fever to run its course, speeds things up by several days.

I had the jab this year - for the first time in many years - but I figured since they added swine flue to the mix it might be worthwhile - I did not have any reaction to it at all but then I usually have a bomb proof immune system anyway.
My wife had the same shot a bit later and followed down the same path as you - feeling very groggy for a couple of days and then coming down with a cold.
Now since the vaccine does not contain anything live it cant cause you to get the flue - HOWEVER my theory is that maybe because it is putting load on your immune system - it is weakening you to catch anything else that may come along??
Disclaimer: I am just speculating here - maybe somebody who knows something about it can shed some light?

Had it this year and last, no reaction coupled with a very varied allround diet of good basic foods plus a red once or twice a week, touch wood I have not even had a cold for around 5 years. Had the flue jab last year as we were travelling overseas for 2 months this time last year.

I've never had a reaction. Did they give you a sheet of paper with possible symptoms? They tell you what to expect & when you should contact them. The surgery where I go are emphatic about reading this & adhering to instructions.

Hope you improve soon.

Gidday

There's no way in hell that they are going to stick their filthy germs into me. And heaven know what else is in that mix.

Definately no paper work to read etc etc. Just a quick jab and thats it.
Glad to hear its not just me this happens to.

If I wasn't so busy I would bury myself in bed for a couple of days, but such is life. Taking things as slow as I can in the meantime and hope to feel better sooner rather than later.

I'm pretty sure we had the swine flu last season - the real thing. The whole family got sick, hubby had 2 or 3 days off work - the first time in 20 years - and I had a good dose of the flu myself - the first time in more than 10 years. So I reckon we don't need the jab.

Ronnie - mild flu like symptoms are a known possible side effect of the flu vaccination.

I had the jab for the first time ever this year having taken Buccaline prior to Christmas. Reason was because it has the Swine Flu cover added and I'm off to Asia later this year. I did get a sore arm for a few days - felt bruised when I touched it but that was all.
