I am getting this purrfect wee tot as a reward for Giving up smoking!!!!!!!!!![:0] ha ha Alot of you may remember ages ago that LONG long thread on Smoking. Hmmm I sure do and how it got abit "Hot" at times.
Well I made up my mind and I finally did it. I did it becuase I just decided I was "over it". It wasnt because of all the so called health benefits etc or in the hope I would all of a sudden feel like running marathons lm,ao...yeah right!!! I was just over it. I had been thinking about it for some time, and when I was ready, I did it. My method to give up was the "Bicom thearpy" (google it) Its really interesting, it just was the sort of treatment that made sense to me.
Its been 8 weeks today actually. I have to say that it has been FAR far easier than I ever imagined it would be. No im not feeling alot better or smell things better or any of the stuff alot of ex smokers tell you lool. I am very glad that I did it, but I am realistic. I cant gaurentee Ill never go back!!! BUT I dont ever want to. I did enjoy my 35 years as a smoker, well alot of it. I am determind I am never going to become one of those pain in the butt (ha ha) excuse the pun ex smokers who all of a sudden become holier than thou.
I figure to each his own. For those of you who want to give up, do it. make your time and set a goal BUT do it only when the time for YOU is right.
Hey I NEVER thought I would be able to break that addiction and stop, 35 years is a LONG time, BUT id did it and now I am going to get my wonderful Ragdoll:)

I gave up 18 years ago after being a 2 pack a dayer.
Good thinking to reward yourself with a living being. I am sure you will be delighted with your new best friend and I hope she learns to live with the dog quickly [

And of course, we need some photos please when she arrives.

Ragdolls are great. There used to be one in Coleman Mall in Palmerston North and it used to stroll around the pavements, lie in the sun & visit the various shops. Also, some horsey people I know have one & it's forever snooping in visitors' trucks. One time it got in mine & I didn't know & several kms down the road it went over the horses' heads and out the window! Didn't come to any harm & was back in my truck on next visit.
Pic's please when it arrives ..... and it's name will be?

My wee girl is a seal point and she is going to be called "Bailey" I really wanted a boy, but murphys law there was only 1 in a litter of 6 and he was a B;lue point. I really love the seal and the mother is stunning looking. I love the name Bailey so its staying Bailey ha ha hey it will do for a girl. The breeder is amazing. I have had videos and updates and pics sent on a very regular basis.
I cant wait to finally meet her.
ronnie, I reckon the Rottie will be fine, if you tell her something is a "baby" she is very gentle. The 16 year old cat Abby is going to be the one whos nose is out of joint, she is my eldest daughters cat. i will be sure and post a pic when she arrives.

My immediate reaction is to get all nasty and angry with Tariana who couldn't give up food (an addiction in her case) and P Holmes daughter who is a P addict, and the Govt who gets 70% tax from any packet of cigarettes and rage and rant about the ability to target one addiction over another. I actually had an email back from T when I pointed out this anomily and the answer was that it was too hard to target food!
I then asked a nurse friend " what is classified as a smoking related death?" The answer in simple terms was that if you are a smoker and get diabeties (and other problems) then your death is recorded as smoking related. That made me even madder as we all know people (including obese people) who have never smoked in their lives (so not a statistic in the anti smoking camp) who have lost limbs etc an died.
Regardless of all the above "ranting" I wish I had never started. I wish there was a button that I could push that would just say "Enough" so I will look at what you have put up and I hope it will work for me too. What really bothers me about this new Tax is that this is all about the Govt grabbing money from where ever they can get it and has nothing whatever to do with 50% Maori smoking and therefore everyone in NZ is to be taxed for this crime. How?
Is it not possible that this will mean less money in the larder to feed the children of smokers especially when both parents smoke? How many children are already being fed at schools by voluntary organisations? Less money to pay power, rent etc and so WINZ will step in to top it up? More call on the Voluntary organsiations who are already struggling with Foodbanks. Is this really the way to get people to stop smoking?
HOWEVER... I so applaud you for having done it and don't you dare say "I can't guaranteee I will never go back" You have too. I just wish non smokers understand how powerful the addiction is and the fact that quitting isn't a case of turning a switch off - it is the same as any other addiction and it is a committment for the rest of your life to say No. Yes there are some that don't go throught that but the majority do. Stay stong and know that I for one applaud you!

I do have to say though that since giving up I am having ALOT of trouble with high BP, isnt it ironic? I am about to start (reluctantly) new BP tablets, just putting it off till the old ones have finished as I am a whimp and scared sh**** of the side effects they can have.

Lots of kids experiment with smokes when they are young, especially if the adults in the family smoke, but dare mention that to a doctor, even if they never took up smoking "properly", and it's recorded as the person being a smoker. Darned if I know why. They don't record people who drive through smoke from a fire as being a smoker.I then asked a nurse friend " what is classified as a smoking related death?" The answer in simple terms was that if you are a smoker and get diabeties (and other problems) then your death is recorded as smoking related. That made me even madder as we all know people (including obese people) who have never smoked in their lives (so not a statistic in the anti smoking camp) who have lost limbs etc an died.
I've seen some of those ragdolls grow into very big cats.
