I'm sorry but I don't understand why you are buying a gift at all... you do not know this young man, he does not know you, chances are he will not remember you after the party. It seems to me he is going to do very well out of a lot of people he doesn't know. Would a card not be enough? On a lighter note, it was my birthday on Friday and I didn't get anything - if you really must buy a gift for someone PICK ME! PICK ME!

Our standard 21st present for young chappies has always been a toastie maker - with an exchange card in case he gets more than one. Usually those go down a treat [;)] and not too expensive.

But I am with the others as far as whether you should be expected to buy a present as opposed to a card. We only buy if we know the person involved as more than just an acquaintance...

Personally, having been to quite a few 21sts I'd be avoiding it like the plague. Usually end up feeling real old real quick, esp when the beer starts flowing with the 21 (and younger) crowd as it invariably does! [}:)] Unless its a family or close friend occasion and you know heaps of people who will be there...?

Take a break...while I take care of your home, your block, your pets, your stock! [;)] PM me...

OH seems to be going off the idea of attending. I don't really care either way afterall, it is his workmates whom I get to socialise with once a year at the end of the season (which is fast approaching).

Sorry, but I would not dream of attending a 21st without taking a pressie of some sort.

JustHoldingOn, I soooooo hear you. I have a significant birthday fast aproaching [:0][:I] and with all the hassles we are having with selling the house etc etc etc I suspect it will get totally overlooked.[;)]

My advise - take the recipe book IF you can afford it as it is not cheap and go have some fun. I love being with young people and at the end of the day, if you are bored and want to leave - go!

Jeez - we are the creators of our own existence and who knows - you may enjoy dancing your socks off to the "weird" music that may be playing and find that there was nothing to worry about regarding fitting in and having some fun. You have your man with you, so make the best of it whatever the outcome. Luckier than some of us I might add who are single and have to do the hard yards to meet with strangers and feel part of being there! Enjoy - regardless of the present. It really isn't important.
