Your site Kate I suggest most children see worse than that every time they watch TV after a certain time and/or watch a R12 DVD - certainly most kids could teach me the facts of life on a wide range of subjects.
Well I can't see the difference between this & the joke about old people sex posted by chooky. How come this one is deleted & the other seems to be OK?
Just the difference between text and graphics. If a friend tells me a dirty joke then I'm not offended, if they show me a photo of people having sex I'd be very offended. The fact that people tell jokes and don't show photos (not to me anyway) suggests they know there is a difference too.
An interesting discussion topic - why are you more offended by a (heavily blurred)picture, than a graphic written description or than a verbal blue joke - but probabably not a topic for here.
For me it is the same difference between listening to the radio news and watching a similar bulletin on the TV. I can construct quite enough horror in my mind's eye without having it pushed in front of me, so I avoid looking in directions I think may attempt to do that, like the TV news, for instance. Your link's content was like watching a GA film with a sudden cut to something graphically unpleasant.
I do not wish to look at pictures of people in the act of something I personally consider private. There's a level beyond which I don't wish to hear people talking about sex either, but as Kate says, that bar is often far lower and it's dependent on context - who's doing the talking, in what company, how well I know or like that person and so on. I'm not particularly prudish, I don't think, but I have long doubted the value of exposing sexual acts to the view of others; I don't think it's done much for societal advancement and some similar exposure is well connected with a very nastily exploitative industry!
