For 15 days the dog has been aboard alone, after it's thought his owner fell overboard. I guess there's some resolution for the family now.

I do hope that it wasnt tied up, but had free rein over the boat..to food and sufficient water.. of course one does have to wonder if the dog tripped the guy up and he fell overboard..Very sad, I do hope they find him some time soon, it would be nice if he was found alive, but closure for the family if not.

The report says the dog had been fed and watered so it doesn't seem that the sailor disappeared off the boat 15 days ago. I guess the truth of what happened will never be discovered - another case of pity the animal can't talk! Very sad for for everyone around him though.

I read that too, Jeannielea, but a second report said it had been fed and watered by the sailors of the ship that found it...

That was my first thought too - just as well she didn't follow him......

Turns out when the fishermen found her Juanita had a bag of food with her on her bed, and a large bucket of fresh water, so she was well taken care of, even if her poor owner wasn't there.

There is video of her hugging the Chatham Islands policeman and following him around, it's very sweet.

Yes, it was this one from the NZ Herald... it goes on a bit, but the part about Juanita is near the end.
