chain link help ! was created by beedee
I am making a dog run, using chain link and want the kennel on the outside. what is the best way to cut a hole in the link fence. [yes I know wirecutters!] so that the link retains its linkage are there any tricks, I know how to wriggle one wire out when cutting a length.
I can add boards and staple the "hole"to them.. but just wondered if there was a trick to keeping the tension.. without it looking too mak-e-doo!

Snip one wire at a time and bend it over as you go. Alternatively make up a welded steel square out of steel rod or similar and lace that in as you cut the wires.

Thanks CG, I dont have access to welded steel...etc... so shall make the bendy system, and if it looks too ugly shall then cover it up with a picture frame of wood type thingee

Hi Beedee, My husband makes gates etc. out of this wire, and he uses a softer wire to thread it through the chainlink wire and around the pipe going in circles all the way up to tension it. I hope this is what you are meaning. Cheers.

No, I need to make a hole in the middle of the fence "panel" as such, but am using 6 x1 palings above and below so could make a frame around the hole as such..
and no I cant tack it to the kennel as that is made out of freezer insulation.. and also want to bring the kennel away everynow and then so I can give it a good clean out.
I just thought there might be a trick as to how to make that hole without the lot unravelling and losing tension on that wall of the run.. will put my thinking cap on tomorrow before I do the test!! cut

Beedee .. um just a thought ... what about if you wired the outline of the hole you want all together befor you cut the hole out of it ?
May be a bit fiddly to do, but, if you had already wired ( tied off) the outline securly together befor you cut the hole out, then that should keep the tension on the rest of the fencing :) ... then cut out the inner part of the wired outline to make your hole

Stu, yes thats what I meant by a picture frame around and I think that would be the best way, the dog kennel has a triangle hole and I will go a square one in the fence me thinks .. and yes to securing first before cutting wire... thanks
