Is this Edible Rhubarb?

I hope my photo is attached. First time I've done this.

I'm wondering if this old monstrosity at my back door is actually rhubarb. I've just seen it lining somebody's driveway & wonder about it.

Don't try eating that! It's a nasty invasive called bear's breeches (Acanthus mollis) and is definitely not edible []

Toast I nearly gagged at the thought of you trying to cook that hideous plant - I hate it with a passion. Cut off the flower stalks BEFORE they seed everywhere and if you try to dig it out, be warned that any tiny bit of root left will regrow.

No wonder it wouldn't cook!!!

Remember, ages ago I started a thread about rhubarb and asked all those questions? Well, this was it!

It looked like rhubarb and was outside the back/kitchen door & some potatoes were growing amongst it, so I thought it must be rhubarb!

Just as well I didn't give any away to some unsuspecting soul who actually ate it!

Flowers are stunning though. Neighbour has them in a tall vase in her lounge.

Yes, still alive! I thought it was my terrible cooking/gardening skills!

What alerted me was when I went to dinner at neighbours' & they had the flowers in a tall vase & they looked great. Couple days later went up to their parents place & noticed the driveway lined with them for about 100m and thought it a bit unusual to line the driveway with rhubarb. But then I got to thinking ..... perhaps it's not rhubarb!

Thank goodness LSB is here to save me from dying at my own hand!
