A spam email has just arrived that says I've been chosen for a development grant from the U.N. :D[}:)]

Appariently these grants are going out to 'chosen' people in many countries and the returns from the investments made in each person's business development is supposed to benefit future generations. ;)

But I mustn't divulge the information about receiving this grant, as other people might want to claim it. [}:)] To anyone out in internet world, have my share of nothing - you're welcome to it. [^]

Eventually these scams must die out surely. Or are there enough idiots in the world to feed these leaches. [?]

Haven't had that one - but I seem to have won several major lotteries of late:D:D
Seems its all to do with them picking email addresses, rather than me having to buy a lottery ticket

oh well, its nice to dream of these things......
now to actually win something with a substatial number of zeros following the 1........

cheers
Jan

Yes but this one had a lot more money. :p :D

The Engineer is very handy though. There's a lot of things like installing a solar powdered water pump, that I'd never attempt if I didn't have a handy Engineer. ;)

I've had a few really rich distant relatives die in Africa with no heirs. Seems I am next of kin!

I did get suckered by an e-mail from TradeMe, or so it seemed.

I had to phone TradeMe to sort it out. They told me they always state the name of the person at the top of the e-mail, not just "Hey there".

Doh! It seemed on the up and up but Kim told me to hold the cursor over the logo and a see what the address thingy was at the bottom of the screen. It had 1gb something something so not an authentic site.
Got it fixed anyway and felt dumb for a while. At least I don't have 'an account' so there's no money to be had.
Things had to be changed so I have to remember the new password etc but I felt I was an easy mistake to make :p [:I]

Yeah, we got some of those e-mails purportedly from Trade Me as well.

The subject line was:

RE:Subject Question from TradeMe Member - Urgent Response

which is a little different than usual and I also didn't have any auctions running at the time which made me smell a rat straight away.

Also, the e-mail was from: <member@trademe.co.nz>

Which is different from the usual address. So on both counts I flagged it as SPAM for future reference by Inger's G-mail account.

The ones I hate are those purporting to be from your bank, saying that your account has been compromised and you need to send in your password so that they can sort things out. I worry that an elderly person with little computer knowledge will get worried and actually do what the email asks. That's a really low thing to do. Nasty little creeps. :(
