A friends place has been done over, and her grandfathers 1st WW medals, and electronics, have been stolen.
Is there any way to ask TradeMe to watch out for these items, and if so, how?

I would suspect the Police would have to inform Trademe to be on the lookout for specific items.
You won't have any luck with them asking yourself.

If your friend has no luck with Trademe, then maybe a 'saved search' for war medals would alert them whenever a new item was listed. Although they (thieves) do tend to keep newly stolen items out of circulation for some time before trying to sell them, you never know your luck or their stupidity. My brother had a jet ski stolen and months later it was advertised, the police quickly got involved and he did get it back, damaged of course and minus the trailer. Good luck, hope your friend gets their items back.

Also, while it won't be those particular medals, a request to the army medals staff can have replacements issued,

I think it could be worth approaching Trademe. They do try and assist with dodgy traders etc. The worst they can do is tell you to F* off

Brave Words. I've heard them before from thousands of species across thousands of worlds, since long before you were created, but now, they are all Borg.

Hi, Notify second hand shops and army memorablila type second hand shops in the area. That is often helpful if they know about the theft and will be aware that they have been stolen. Cheers

Hi LR, if memory serves the WWI medals had the recipients name and service number stamped on the edge. If the descendant has recorded these or can remember the surname and initials of his/her forebear, then circulating these details to dealers and 2nd hand shops may give a result. I am sure there must be some online forums for collectors etc so maybe letting them know as well. Any genuine collector would know the emotional value of these and respect that so wouldn't want to encourage theft or have them in their collection knowingly or unknowingly.
