Dog friendly Motels was created by Dream Weaver
I know this subject has been talked about before, but can someone give me some info on a good Motel where dogs are welcome. We are looking at getting away for a weekend with our dog early next year. Hopefully to somewhere like Hawkes Bay, I think I have heard there is one up that way.
Anyone stayed in one of these? If so your experiences please.

smilie - I am no longer a Member but the Motorcaravan Association used to have a Directory which listed many sites where dogs were welcome and I seem to recall some were motels. Know anyone who has a motorcaravan?

The SPCA puts (put?) out a "Pet Guide NZ" that has a "Pet Friendly Accommodation" section.
Hope that helps...

Smilie, the SPCA pet friendly guide is online:
www.petguide.co.nz/results.php?category_id=2994
There are 14 options in Hawke's Bay, according to the guide.

I just use the AA site and I can usually easily find a pet-friendly motel. However, our dogs are always kept outside the unit, sleeping either in the ute or in their trailer. If you want to have your dog(s) in the unit it can be a bit trickier.
Another option is to do a google on holiday houses to rent - there are a couple of good holiday house/batch rental web sites for NZ and many of these are also pet friendly (again, usually outside only). Last year we did a big 3 week trip with 5 dogs from Dunedin to Waipukurau then Hawkes Bay, back to Feilding then down the West Coast of the South Island and home via Wanaka as an extended holiday while attending the National Dog Training Assembly. We were travelling with several friends and we all found great dog-friendly accommodation including holiday houses to rent in Napier. Ours was a cottage in a vineyard which cost about the same as a good motel and was soooo much better! Another couple had a cottage with its own lake which had a fully-fenced area for the dogs and another had a beach-front cottage.
