Ferkin townies!!

Firework displays for over 2 hours and some huge bangs that sounded like a shotgun. Did not know there were fireworks that big! [!]
Anyway, we were along the n/bours for dinner when some of the new townies started to let them off, pretty cascades to start with but got louder and heavier so we came home to check on the stock etc.
Birds in the outside aviaries doing their best to beat themselves to death on the wire, baby birds in the house acting along the same lines. The house ones were easy to calm, I can't shine a torch on the outside ones, they would panic and repeat their efforts. Hopefully all are ok. 3 brand new cockatiels just hatched, they better be ok [!]
Goats were not too concerned. Taz, one of the dogs, is the one that usually goes ballistic. We got home and she is happy and calm.........

..... Suki is missing

L just has to move towards the gun and she runs for cover in the house, these fireworks must have scared the living daylights out of her. She could not get into the house and we have no idea where she is, we have been searching for over 2 hours.
Needless to say, these new n/bours, did not think it necessary to let more than an immediate n/bour know what they were doing.
I can see how farmers get peeved at townies. [!]
Dumb thing was, I checked before I left that there were no fireworks. Dumber thing, I did not check far enough afield.
Rant over.... for now.

I absolutely HATE fireworks with avengence ....and before anyone starts on the remember your childhood bandwagon ... I do ...and fireworks were alot gentler then and people a lot more responsible ( the general public that is not aiming anything at the still responsible people but like everything a the minority can ruin everything for the rest!!!
I am in favour of banning public sale but in favour of the organised family type displays where everyone and everything is safer:)
Do hope Suki is home now tho' spoook ...we are lucky to live without any close neighbours

On the news that only half of normal amount of fireworks imported into NZ this year. Cold comfort for those like you who had a bad night, but let's hope they are really getting less popular for public sale and will eventually just be at public displays.

I have been up several time during the night.............. nothing
No sign of her.
The townies, in fact the whole valley, would have known I was looking for her as my whistles PIERCED the calm, quiet night.
The fireworks were at the 3rd block away, they did not think the sound would go this far [:0] I ask you!!! I still am amazed at the heavy bangs some of them gave off, that is, if they were fireworks [!] I would have loved to have taken the shotgun there early this morning, I bet their heads hurt.[xx(]

L has taken Taz across to where our cattle are to see if she has gone across there looking for us. Once she hears Taz working she will not be able to help herself but join in..... if she hears her

I will ring the pound just incase, she has her reg tag so I assume they ring us.

We have the same problem every year. We are surrounded by townies and they always let bl.... fireworks off and it goes on for weeks [!] the goats are absolutly terrified, no one bothers to let us know they are going to let them off so we can organise the goats. All we can do is barn them up and sit with them until it stops. Can't wait to move away into the whop whops where the animals can feel safe.I so hate fireworks [!]
I had another neighbour decide to pull out all my herbs and long grass and cut all my flaxes and feed shrubs down to below fence level in my plantation while we away in Hamilton cause "he said" they were going to go to seed and looked messy [!][!] now i've lost my extra feed and herbs etc. If i'd had a gun i would have ..... he had also thrown over a big pile of thistles which i had to pick up and informed him the goats didn't really like eating them -he then told me i didn't know what i was talkng about and that goats love all that crap,he knows cause his sister in law had goats once [!] evidently i know nothing about goats at all :confused: [:0] i've had enough i really have to move somewhere peaceful.
It is not a good week [xx(]

SPOOOK - has Suki turned up - please make sure you ring the POUND (near you) and also the one out West incase, and any/all local vets.
Please let me know ASAP if she is not home this evening and I will put the alert out to all and sundry that I know locally and a bit further.

PS... yes, bstards the lot of them, we luckily had no drama last night, but it would be the first year we haven't had any problems since we moved here!

I had a friend who had ongoing problems with neighbours who complained about paddocks she left fallow each year, because the wife suffered from hayfever :confused::confused::confused: and wanted it all kept cut.

Well i live out in the wop wops and my dork piss head neighbour is having clay target shooting all day saturday and fireworks sat night! My horses are pretty good with gun shoots and hopefully the banging all day will de sensitise them to the fireworks all night [!]
Living in the middle of no where doesn't help much if you have 1 f*ckwit neighbour

Still no sign of her. We have covered the whole n/bourhood but nothing. Having no idea which way she went, obviously not towards the noise, we have no idea where to look intensively.
She can't be close or Taz's barking would have brought her out.
Just rang a n/bour incase he had had a shed open last night that is now closed..... nothing.

She is not the friendliest of dogs to most people, a timid little thing, so I can't see her getting into someone's car. They would have had a job to catch her, hence she was not tied when I left, she knew I wanted to tether her and took off.

I have an amazing feeling of helplessness and uselessness.....

Hey spoook, sometimes they can be not to far away just really shell shocked and sort of frozen to the spot so they just can't move almost like being paralyzed and it can also cause them to be quite confused on how to get home even though they may actually be within sight of home.Fireworks are just so devastating for the animals. If you keep calling and searching i am sure you will find her soon. Thinking of you, there is nothing worse than having one of your loved ones missing

After combing the locale we were sort of running out of places to look. I would not leave home incase she came back or we got a call.
I was feeding the sparrow and felt a nudge on my leg,
Suki was home very wet and with dirty feet but safe and bouncing all over the place. She acts like she has come from a long way.

I do know the next few nights I won't be leaving home and she will be with me.

Now maybe I can get something done, these children are such a worry

We had a clown let some off 2 streets away from us at 10:40PM last night all of a sudden that was only one we heard, ones that shot up into the sky with big bang Grrrrrrr. Saturday night is what we are worried about
