I didn't notice it, but then it takes a lot to shake me

magnitude 4.5, 90Km deep, and only 39.1 KM away by GPS.
Gave mum quite a start.

11 acres (4 in QEII Covenanted native bush), 15 sheep, 2 beefies, large vege gardens and a goat, and still no dog!
Oh, and uncountable wild birds - including fantails, swallows, yellowhammers, morepork, magpies, hawks, pukekos, and even quaill, pheasants and rainbow lorikeets [

] Not to mention possums, hares, rabbits, rats...

Have you filled in a "Felt report"?
Did any of your animals react at all? Some people say they can predict them, others say they just get spooked by them before we notice them.
I live on the side of a volcano, so we can't get them - unless they're caused by an imminent eruption
I used to live in Wellington and I quite liked them - shows you of the power of nature, how flimsy we and our structures are, and how unprepared some people are.

Full moon was yesterday 8.00am, perigee is 8.00pm Saturday night. That'd help do it!

Exactly what does a full moon have to do with an earthquake?

Didn't see anything out of the ordinary, no cows hop-skip-and-jumping across the landscape anyway.

Yup, or rather as I never noticed it, bullied mum into divulging the details and filled it in for her.OakhengeFarm;287168 wrote: Have you filled in a "Felt report"?

When I lived In Palmerston North many years ago I always knew when a quake was coming because the world would get so silent. No bird noise, no animal noise. Just eerie silence.
Perhaps this was noticed more as we were surrounded by shelter belts and I was so used to the birds that when they stopped - it just hit you - the silence.

Peak, as opposed to Apogee, the low point or trough. So the Perigee would be the point at which the quake is strongest, some call it the climax, but that sounds a bit dirty to those with low minds
Also used in orbital mechanics to describe the furtherest and point of an elliptical orbit, with the Apogee the closest point of the orbit.
