Hahahaha! :D There were these Highland sheep the guy bought in, didn't catch which breed they were, but looked like a goat - curved horns. Very striking and apparently tough as nails.

Were they Hebridean sheep. Very hardy black horned sheep.

"Hebrideans are hardy and able to thrive on rough grazing, and so are often used as conservation grazing animals to maintain natural grassland or heartland habitats. They are particularly effective at scrub control, having a strong preference for browsing".

Loved it - especially the piece where the dog ate his bacon butty and "was in the landrover thinking about himself" as punishment!! :D also cool that he had a rescue dog to give a taste of such an environment after a bad start..the sheep were the Soay a hardy "primitive" breed...

Interesting program sort of like "Off The Radar" with a Scottish flavour. I suspect the guy is going to find difficulty slaughtering animals for eating considering his mourning the loss of a seagull [;)]

The Soay sheep sound interesting. From Wikipedia: The breed also lacks the flocking instinct of many breeds. Attempts to work them using sheep dogs result in a scattering of the group. Now that would make things interesting :)

The self regulating population mechanism is a beautiful example of nature's inbuilt checks and balances in action
