mind you theres a difference between a regional delicacy that the locals eat, and a regional delicacy that gets fed to tourists with smothered sniggers :P who here has read Terry Pratchetts "Jingo"?

MEEEE :D :D :D

(I couldn't reply in the other thread)

I think Pratchett is very sharp in many of his observations on common culture. His food references in all his books are very funny whether hes having his characters contemplate the particular frame of mind/ drunkenness/cultural awareness that allows you to eat 'sausageinnabun' or 'rat onna stick'. I particularly liked the scene in one of the books where Lance-constable Angua is getting a hard time for buying chickens so she can kill them ... the werewolves finding it distasteful that she buys the chickens and the humans finding it distastful that she chases the chickens[:0] :D :D

And even with all the Vampire books currently in vouge, only Pratchett came up with the concept of the Vampires Taking The Pledge and having a 'nice cup of tea and a singsong afterwards'....... :p

Terry Prachett is a firm favorite around here. Yes he can take the P!$$ out of us, and our preconceived ideas and biases and good on him for doing it to.

Favourite author, very very sharp satire. Read, re-read, re-read, and never get sick of him :D

Except I keep using his best quotes and then have to explain myself - last night it was 'going down the wrong leg of the Trousers of Time'. Still getting funny looks for that one [:I]

He's still going strong, another book due out October, The Unseen Academicals - have already put myself in queue to borrow a copy of my mate who always buys hardcopy (I have to wait until the soft copy comes out a year later as not enough bookshelf space otherwise :()

Have those who enjoy TP tried the 'kidult' series about Tiffany Aching and the Nac Mac Feegles?

yup, it seemed less a kidacult, or young adult book, than a more mythical rehash of the lords and ladies book.
