Java on computer was created by RaeM
My computer keeps flashing that I can download a new update to the Java programme, it has me a bit confused as I dont know what that is really for, so can anyone enlighten me. Thanks

Check in your computer if you already have Java loaded. If so, it is just an update for you. For example: I had to download Java to play on-line scrabble.
I'm sure one of the tecchies will be along shortly to explain it a bit better.
I found it in add/delete programmes section.

Yes I do have java loaded on my computer and just wondered if it was worth updating it at all, especially as the thing keeps flashing at me everytime I open the computer!

I know the feeling well !!!!! I put up with the wee reminder flashing for about a month, then gave in and updated it - just to make it go away [;)]
Must say, the scrabble game works a lot faster now, so the upgrade did me some good.

Many web pages, programs and games use java, it is a legitimate update, and will only make your computer run better.
