Computer - What Do I Do?

I have a problem that is stopping me getting into some websites. I'm always a bit leary of playing around with things and then stuffing them up altogether:D

A window comes up saying:

Internet Explorer has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to close.
File: Flash6.ocx
Company Name: Adobe Systems Inc.
Description: Flash Player 6

I followed through the process and can figure out how to disable it but it won't let me update ActiveX. Sorry if that doesn't make sense, it doesn't to me either! I've got no idea what Flash Player is and as far as I can see, I don't have it on the computer.

What shall I do? Throw it out the window?

Cheers,
Ronnie

Flash player is a plug in for your internet explorer. It is a little piece of software which plays video in the flash format. If a web developer adds such a video to a web page and you go to this webpage, Internet Explorer realises that this is a flash video and tries to find the plug in. It then finds out that it is not installed and asks you if you want to download it.

I personally hate this since I do not see why I should download some third party tool just because someone thought it is cool to have a video on their web page. But it is different if you want/need to look at a flash video.

You can download the player here: www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/downloa...rsion=ShockwaveFlash

Cheers

Peter

Thanks Peter. I disabled the add-on this morning after I had posted and was able to get into the web site I wanted to although it told me several times that I had disabled the add-on!

So, if I download that link that will fix the problem?

BTW, did you get my email?

Cheers,
Ronnie

It's worth a try Ronnie and certainly won't do any harm. I never had any problems with Flash :)

Ok, ta. I'll do it tomorrow and I guess I really needed to know that it wasn't going to do any harm:) Not understanding a great deal of what goes on in the brain of my computer, I get very chary about downloading stuff.

Cheers,
Ronnie
