This from my in-box this morning....
:D

An Old Farmer's Advice:

* Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

*Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.

*Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

* A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

* Meanness don't jes' happen overnight.

* Forgive your enemies. It messes up their heads.

* Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.

* It don't take a very big person to carry a grudge.

* The best sermons are lived, not preached.

* Don't judge folks by their relatives.

* Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a Rain Dance.

* Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

* The biggest troublemaker you'll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin'.

* Always drink upstream from the herd.

* Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.

* Lettin' the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin' it back in.

* If you get to thinkin' you're a person of some influence, try orderin' somebody else's dog around.

I love all of them, but I have a problem with this one - I think you can tell a lot about someone by their relatives. Particularly their mother :D

That said, I probably wouldn't judge them... but avoid them like the plague - yes, probably[;)] :D

After spending the last week at work doing maintenance on the plow, I can vouch this one to be correct!

*Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

Do something.

Either lead, follow, or get out of the way.

I don't know PG... **edited by me** my spouse of going on 22 years is SO very different from his family, that if I knew them before I knew him, I probably never would have given him a second look.

I guess it's just really bad luck/judgement/taste for me then :D ... if I had met the potential MIL in question on the first date I would have run a significant distance in the opposite direction and saved myself a whole heap of time and energy.

Mind you, I guess you could argue I learnt a lot too! :D
