One of our pet people has started agility with their girl, Cinnamon. She had her first Ribbon trials yesterday. I know she has worked soooo hard with Cinnamon, being a Beagle you can imagine! :D
Anyway She finished both her trials! YAY!! :D :D She unfortunately got disqualified from both - ONLY for missing a jump and then her girl went back over it the wrong way but she did it all, the open tunnels, the closed tunnel, the weave, everything!! [:0]
I am so proud of them!!! :D :D

Yeah! I constantly think about doing agility with my wee mutt but always seem too busy in Summer and it is too cold and wet in Winter!

I remember being at a meeting at the local A&P grounds and watching the agility people outside rugged up to the enth degree in Winter going through their paces with their dogs and thinking - "That is committment!". I don't think I have that in my makeup and I can just see E's big brown eyes looking at me going " What the...Mum?" It wouldn't be the doing it - that would be fun but the waiting in line for your turn? Nah!

That's great A2J, dog agility is such good fun, my dad started a dog agility in Luton donkeys years ago and as far as I know it's still running. They called themselves Bedfordshire Agility Training Society..BATS for shorts cos ya had to be a bit BATS to do it! lol :D

Which club is she with A2J?

There's a couple of beagles doing agility in the SI - not sure where they're from - Christchurch or Nelson I think...

And yep, we're all mad - we get up at the crack of dawn on weekend mornings to spend our days competing in whatever weather gets thrown at us. We do have a couple of indoor riding arenas we use down here tho - at least we don't get wet but its still b****y cold [}:)] Thank goodness for hot bacon sandwiches, coffee and Kathmandu puffer jackets [8D]

The main reason Hubby and I are involved though is the great people we've met. Our best friends are our agility friends and we have some fantastic weekends staying at each other's places and socialising after the shows :D

She's up in Auckland. She has bought equipment and clears their lounge so that she can practice at night! :D She does make it fun for Cinammon so that she doesn't get bored but I'm sure must have the patience of a saint!
The ones from Christchurch are from friends of ours, in fact we are hoping to get a pup from the breeders next year - like their lines. At least with conformation showing we don't (usually) get as muddy as you guys! :D :o

Yeah, but its sometimes better to be able to just let your dog get muddy and not have to worry about it -figured that one out after watching a guy at a conformation show CARRY his St Bernard across a muddy field on his way to the ring [:0] :D :D

Incidentially the muddiest agility show I've ever been to was last year's National Dog Training Assembly in Fielding. We ended up having to run the show at night (finished at about 1am) in the Manfield Park stadium after the obedience had finished. That's why agility has been moved to the Monday/Tuesday after the National Dog Show this year - no-one was prepared to go if it was outside!!! I was completely blown away when NZKC continued with their plans to hold the National at Manfield after what happened at last year's NDTA - we found out later that those grounds are notorious for not draining and we weren't the first event to be disrupted by the mud.

Its probably a bit early in Cinnamon's career for her owner to be considering this year's NDTA which is in Dunedin but if they decide to make the trip let me know and I'll look out for her [8D]

Stu, not sure what part it was - the bit outside the big indoor arena.

The National Dog Show is on 1st - 6th October at Manfield Park. For more info go to the NZKC web site at www.nzkc.org.nz and click on the pink Eukanuba National Dog Show box at the top of the page (don't click on the other National box with the labrador on it as that takes you to a members only section)

The NDS is the major conformation show on the NZKC calendar - there's a timetable for the conformation show on the web site (so you can work out when the Akitas are on [;)]). The agility is on the Monday and Tuesday.

The National Dog Training Assembly (agility, obedience, tracking, flyball, heelwork to music, rally-obedience) is going to be held in Dunedin this year at the A&P showgrounds over Labour Weekend.

I have to admit to being really pi..ed off! [:(!] In theory The Nationals were to be held in Auckland this year - put in for my leave etc. only to be told it's at Manfield Park. [:0] :( Because of the rest of the dogs, cats, sheep, cow, chooks etc we can only ever do day trips so, once again, no Nationals for us!! [:(!] :(

Yeah, I liked the rotation system - it gives everyone a fair chance of attending a National at least one year in 3 but it looks like they're committed to Fielding for a couple of years.

With NDS being so close to NDTA we won't travel to NDS unless one of them is "local" and the other is "away", though this year we won't be going to NDS as we're both heavily involved in organising NDTA and with the NDS date change they're just too close.

Next year NDTA is in Taupo so no Nationals again for us.

Oh dear.... we're off topic - sorry [B)]

There were beagles on the Good Mornng show earlier this week. It seems they are Barry Manilow's favourite dog and they were doing a special to commemorate his 66th birthday. So the Wellington Beagle club had a couple of members along with their dogs. It was very interesting.
The dogs were ever so well behaved.
