AVG free was created by AdoubleJ
I currently have AVG version 7.5 (I think) any way it's the old one...........Do I have to download the new one 8.5 or can I just continue with the old?

I'm using the 8.5 with no problem. Why not download the new version? I think I had a warning that 7.5 was no longer going to be supported but can't remember when that was to start.

Grisoft stopped updates for 7.5 about two weeks ago so you won't get any protection against new viruses that come out. Because of really slow dialup I downloaded 8.5 and the updates onto a mem stick at the internet cafe but haven't installed it yet.

Didi's post is giving me some hope that my fears of the puter locking up are unfounded!

I am using 8.5 and no probs at all :)
it works sweat as a nut :)
5 retired Greyhounds ( Bridgette , Lilly, GoGo,Sam and now Lenny) 15 friendly sheep all of whom are named and come when you call them :) , 2 goats, Mollie and Eee Bee :
