I have purchased a small clothing business and am interested in purchasing an electric cutter, if in fact, it's the wise thing to do.

Any info would be great - cost, suitability for my fabric (lighter weight merino & cotton/spandex - T-shirt weight) and cutting on table at home (not a superbig cutting table!).

Thanks.

PS - I already posted this & it disappeared.

can't help on the electric cutter, but what sort of clothes are you going to be making?

The clothing has sold to the Pacific market and the young set who like wearing black & garments trimmed with feathers or paua rounds; there are one shoulder dresses and tops, empire line dresses and tops, V-neck tops, round necked long sleeved tops, skirts, bolero cardigans, cardigans made from boiled wool (gorgeous and warm feeling), trousers with a drawstring but no trim (a stretchier version for yoga as well); most of the tops are made from a lightweight merino and the dresses and skirts from cotton/spandex.

There are also some gorgeous scarves, wraps and a poncho-like garment which is fantastically warm and has paua rounds on all the bits hanging down. All these sell well in galleries and the skinny merino scarves (about 12.5cm x 180cm long) with paua rounds on the bottom are great for overseas gifts as they pack up very small and keep the postage down. It's beautifully smooth material and fabulous to wear. I love my scarf but it's too warm here at the moment, even in the evenings.

No photo's yet but soon, I hope!

If you know of any suitable shops let me know.

Thanks.

Kiwi303, you would look loverly in a one shouldered dress, complete with feathers and/or paua rounds.

Toast, your first garment sold!

Oh, just don't wear it next weekend; you might scare the locals, Kiwi.

wouldn't I get sunburn?

Might be a bit hard to keep from snagging when crashing through the bush after a pig too :D

Oh, so you want to crash through the bush after a pig in one of my creations?

I'll rush out and get some white fabric and white feathers for the one-shouldered dress (the pigs wouldn't notice you in the black version!).

I had better get back to sewing scarves & praying that my labels are going to turn up - I ordered them on 9 March!

PS - For people who do the other kind of hunting (on horses, following hounds & hares & jumping wire fences) I make white skivvies for wearing with a stock. They have the half neckband which sits just below the top of the stock. They're 100% cotton & the neckband has a bit of spandex in it.

Next batch will be cotton/spandex body as well; a lighter fabric and with a little more stretch.

They're machine washable and I don't even bother pre-soaking and they come out perfectly clean (unless of course you've spilled port and/or beetroot on it at the hunt breakfast).
