Memory Cards

Following on from Digital Cameras, can someone (probably Grant) tell me if all memory cards are created equal. I am looking at a camera which takes an SD card - the 2GB card varies heaps in price, from about $30 off of TM, to $99 for a DSE brand one, and presumably up from there. So, is there any difference?

Don't go for Dicky Smith memory, it is outrageously overpriced. Think 400% markup.
Current lowest prices for SD Cards (incl GST but probably add $5ish freight):
1Gb - $12.95
2Gb - $22.96
4Gb - $51.30
8Gb - $114.00
Most of the memory cards come out of the same 3 factories in Taiwan/China/Indonesia. Then rebranded for sufficient $$$ increase.

Recommended brands of SD card are:
Kingston (the most reliable in my experience)
SanDisk (also very good)
Verbatim
The first two are Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) who produce their own products. I'm not so sure about Verbatim, but having said that, I've never had any trouble with anything I've bought from them.
If you buy the branded SD cards from Camera Manufacturers (Fujifilm, Olympus etc), it is most probably not made by them, but just re-badged from the actual manufacturer and usually quite a bit more expensive.
The prices that Wyseyes has mentioned look excellent to me

Very good price on the 2GB. Where can I buy that besides TM?
Thanks.

Those prices were from www.pconlineshop.co.nz
. They are OEM cards, which I think just haven't been branded yet. When you get them, you can put your own Kingston or SanDisk sticker on them.

About $60.
Seriously though, SDHC is a new format which uses large SD cards, but changes the way it writes data to them. Cards with 4-32 GB are considered high-capacity.
SDHC cards only work in SDHC compatible devices, but standard SD cards work in both SD and SDHC devices.
