Some of you may recall that I asked a question recently (probably about 16 pages ago - grin) about doubleclick (and a hundred others as it turned out) spyware appearing every time I opened LSB. NO answers from anyone so I kept cleaning out the extraordinary cache of spyware CCleaner was detecting until I hit the "I've had enough stage". This was when the latest update would not install.

Guess what? I decided to get rid of it. Yesterday, after two attempts using the uninstall tool, I finally uninstalled it. I then downloaded it from download.com and no spyware has been detected since. I did not do a Safe Mode install so if I had Malware/spyware or whatever, it should have been yelling at me through Resident Shield by now surely. I also ran Microsoft's own tool to scan for Malware and it was clean as a whistle. The computer is flying so...

What do you think was happening Computer experts? Is it possible that AVG home had a corrupted download?

Wow that sounds complicated ha ha but then Im hopeless at things like that. We use AVG professional and its been pretty good. I suppose anything has the ability to be corrupted. Sure someone will be able to offer more advice

I ditched AVG7 some time ago for similar reasons, but have not upgraded to AVG8. I found that AVG did not get rid of common spyware, did not update properly & interfered with computer running for a good number of hours every day as it did it's scan. So when I got infested with some virus that AVG failed to get rid of, I downloaded Malwarebytes which got rid of it in 3 minutes. Also now use Avast which is an on-access scanner. Both programmes can be downloded free from "download.com"

I spoke too soon! It is back and I now know it is "attached" to iexplore.exe. Great!!!! So computer people, what is the next step?

Do I change to Firefox or whatever as my browser or can I dump the current IE in program files and reinstall? Showing my ineptitude at this point. How do I do that and not reinstall all the spyware? Help!!!!!!

I have added to this thread today but unless it is updated in the title I can see it disappearing at a rapid rate of knots. So, how, when it is your thread do you update the thread title?
