I came across this and thought the more techy amongst us might like to see if it will help those that have Vista.
Or, you may have resigned yourselves to how it operates.

We ended up taking new computer in and chucking out vista and replacing with XP. [}:)] For what ever reasons, it could not or would not accept 2 email address. :( We have a personal and a business one, and you just select "change address" on XP. :D :D OH got it because it sounded like what he needed "But" [}:)]

In open office you can do "save as" and then choose "save as type" and save the document as a word document. The version of OO that I have has three different versions of word to choose from. Then they should be able to open it.

Oh and "the plate thingo on the laptop that isn't a mouse..." is called a touchpad! :)

yeah yeah yeah George, I know, don't get all techno on me, everyone understands me speak ya know![;)][;)][;)][;)][;)] :D [8D]

Personally I think it was a delaying tactic, today I was told they couldn't read my faxes that I sent them.... and I offered to re-send and was clearly told no.

In my case its all about delay. Nothing else. I am just too efficient for them.[;)]

Have been using Vista for over 12 months now with no problems. Went straight to it from W98 so don't know how it differs from XP. Use a mouse with my notebook as I hate the touchpad.

Yes, Vista is resource hungry but got sick of running old software and not being able to open files sent to me!

Since when has the choice of operating system determined what files you can open?

You all seem to be conflating the OS with the software. They are independent.

but a lot of programs are not as backwards-compatible as they used to be. they won't open files created by older versions of the same program without garbling some because of different formatting of the saved files. and Vista is not compatible with the old versions of the program so you can't uninstall the new and go back to the old...

Yes BUT a machine running W98 and office2000 won't open files created on Office 2007 and saved as .docx or other such formats. Try putting Office2007 on an old machine running 98 and it don't go! In this discussion the os and the software are linked.
