I have a job interview tomorrow and my hands have ingrained dirt from goat wrangling. To make it worse i was oiling shelves on the weekend so have dirt stuck to oil as well. My nails aren't too flash either but they're beyond help. How can I get them sparkling clean by tomorrow. Scrubbing doesn't seem to work, I need chemical warfare - and preferably something that I have in my cupboard already.

Goats: 4 boers + 4 kids (all does[:D]), 1 saanen + 2 kids, 1 toggenburg.

I was always told on material butter to get the oil out and dishwashing liquid to get the butter out. Don't know about hands.

If in doubt baking soda..... just because any time I have ever asked for advice re stains, people say baking soda

Orange citrus scrub always does well. If you have one of those facial scrubs like St Ives apricot that has the oatmeal scrub in it could help.

Toothpaste might help if you haven't got gritty soap...it's slightly abrasive :D

I read once on a website that a mix of butter and sugar (if all else fails) was meant to work really well. Never tried it personally.

I use a little hand/nail scrubbing brush in warm water, JIF works quite well if it's bad, but it usually takes quite a few goes at it over a few hours before I can remove stains like purple spray or ingrained dirt.

Washing up liquid and sugar is good for getting oil off. Meths is good for removing solvent-based stuff, like enamel paint.

After that, moisturise - your poor skin will need it!

Wipe with paper towel & repeat,
put on a pair of old rubber gloves & leave them for about an hr (read a book)

My hairdresser swears by bleach!

Yikes. Use a good moisturiser/handcream afterwards though.

Perhaps a good long soak in the bath would help?

Good luck for the interview.
