I know there is Cool Britannia for English food, is there anything that has German stuff? I found one a couple of years ago, but don't seem to be able to find it anymore.

How about Brezelmania Clods? A German bakery - I think the mother ship is in Petone, but there are branches in Kilbirnie & Kelburn. Bread & sweet stuff.

Thanks - I have driven passed it lots, Llew. I should go in and see if they make more then pretisels.

I am specifically looking for things to use in cooking like potato dumpling mix, gingerbread that you use in cooking to thicken sauces, etc. I tried making the potato dumplings from scratch, and they fell appart in the water. I know the packet mix ones stay together!

Hi CLods,

we are German and I can tell you that Jansesn is actually South African and bl**dy expensive meanwhile. He comes close to our Luncheons and sausages but is not the real deal. The best German sausages and also other things you can get at the Black Forest Butchery in Albany. Have a look here www.blackforestgourmet.co.nz/frames.php?home/index.php

Both, Jansens and Black Forest Butchery have other German groceries in their shops but I am not sure if they do mail order them. But you could ask them and I am sure they would be happy to help you!

I am not sure if Veronika'S Bavarian Import in Glenfield is still doing business, but if they do, DO NOT GO THERE! NEVER EVER!
They are the worst of the worst! They sell stuff to horrendous prices and most of it is past its best before date! And they are racist and if you subscribe to their newsletter you will get racist emails! Sorry, I hope this is not forbidden to post it here.If it is, please feel free to remove it!

Cheers

Peter

Sorry, Don't know where my brain is today but I forgot something. You mentioned Cool Britannia and I had a look at their webpage. Because I am looking for a place where I can get English Beer and Ale. I know Regional Wines and Spirit but that's the only one. Any idea who else would sell British Ales as mail order which are different to what I find in the supermarkets?

Sorry if I know hijacked your topic!

Cheers

Peter

I will have a think about the beer thing. I would have suggested regional wine and spirits, not sure who else.

My mum was German (Bavarian) and died a couple of years ago. She didn't really leave any recipes, so I've been trying to cook some of the things she did, but it would be easier with the ingredients my grandma used to send over in food parcels!

I loved the bradwurst from street vendors in Germany - but they tasted completely different depending on which town you bought them in. It would be nice to find someone that did good German (and English) sausages, so thanks.

Hi clods, if you're interested: for a fundraiser for a german playgroup I organized and produced a cookbook, with quite e few recipes, all using ingredients found in New World or Woolworths. I could organize to send you a copy, I'll get a list of the recipes together later, it costs $10. Gotta go now, bedtime for my babies. Back later.

1 hubby, 2 kids, 1 cat, 1 dog, 2 swallows and I've lost count how many offsprings with even more grandkids, 5 bunny girls, 5 bunny boys, 12 chickens (rooster, pullets, chicks and more about to hatch hopefully) and 4 goats with two of them expecting any day! (24.10.14)
But who's counting [;)]...
