Is anyone any good at doing this? The last few nights i keep dreaming that i am on my fathers boat with him and we are in danger but he won't listen to me

The trouble with some women is that they get all excited about nothing, and then they marry him.

most dreams are just doing "spring cleaning" "upstairs".otherwise you feel ignored by your dad.I have dreamt many times about a corner cupboard that is in my dining room.I have spoken with hubbie about that dream so I think that the fact that I talk about it makes it sometimes repeat.10 years ago I dreamt that my husband had got my furniture in a container and I could not find where he did live and I was more sad about never seeing my corner cupboard than not finding him! :)This corner cupboard came from my grandparents and they had it in their fiorst home in 1930'.I often dream that it is lost while we shift and I get so upset.Dream of loosing dogs and the cupboard.Sometimes so scary dreams so I wake up crying. We have joked about that there might be something hidden in the cupboard and that we should take it apart :)

OK "boat' could signify :

Boat

To dream that you are in or see a boat, signifies you ability to cope and express your emotions. Pay particular attention to the condition and state of the waters, whether is is calm or violent, clear or murky, etc. Are you "smooth sailing"? Alternatively, you may be ready to confront your unconscious and unknown aspects of yourself.

To dream that you are trying to jump off a boat, suggests that you want to dive directly in and confront those difficult emotions and approach your problems head on.

Father

To see your father in your dream, symbolizes authority and protection. It suggests that you need to be more self-reliant. Consider also your waking relationship with your father.

To dream that your father is dead, forewarns that you need to proceed with caution in conducting your business.

To dream that you are hitting your father. represents a desperate need for greater closeness with your father. You feel that he is not listening to you. In particular, if you are hitting your father with a rubber object, indicates that whatever
you are doing or telling him has no significant effect on him. Things just literally bounces off him.

Danger

To dream that you are in danger and are wounded or killed, signifies substantial losses in business and discouraging prospects in love. You need to be more cautious in some aspect of your life.

To dream that you escape from danger, signifies that you will rise to a place of high position and honor in your business and social circle.

Ignore

To dream that you are ignoring someone or being ignored, represents some aspect of yourself which you are not paying enough attention to. Alternatively, it may reflect your real waking experiences of being ignored by that person.

Try and make sense of that if you can!

Either that or you're just plain bonkers!

I'm thinking just plain bonkers really :D Dad and i have an awesome relationship, we work together and share an office so i think everything is hunky dory there. Dunno its weird. Last night i dreamed that i was driving the boat (yes driving it on land) and it was a yacht (his is actually a launch) up a narrow twisting rd and i was really scared about falling off the edge and got to a particularly bad bit and told dad i couldn't do it and jumped off and ran away!

I'm very lucky to have one of the few psychotherapists in NZ who specialises in dreams in my family. As you do :D You can feel a real psycho when you talk to her. She's very patient though!

While MMs list is a very good general list, if you want to look at this seriously, it probably won't be very helpful. If you're not too bothered, then it might be fun (and I'm not meaning to be disrespectful here MM!), but real dream therapists don't look at anything as being really set in stone when it comes to dreams ie boats mean one thing, white horses mean something else.

Sometimes dreams are spring-cleaning, sometimes they symbolise something you are wrestling with emotionally, sometimes it's your brain providing context for things that have happened, or that you are worried may happen - and there are many other reasons too.

If you think of your brain as being set out like a huge filing system, a dream is often your mind trying to sort out what "files" (emotions) go where, and sometimes it's very hard - sometimes it takes many dreams to work it out. BTW That's my interpretation of what my brain is like - yours will probably be different!

For example, here's some thoughts from when the family dream therapist looked at a dream for me. Note she didn't interpret it, and she didn't put any preconceptions on things in it - she let me do that - she just asked me questions and gave me ideas and different viewpoints as I went along, and then let me take the ones that felt right or reject ones that didn't. Once I got the hang of it, she just listened really.

While you say it's your Dad, there is always a question over just "who" a person is in a dream. Sometimes what we see as someone we know may in fact be part of ourselves but our mind interprets it as someone else, because looking at yourself can be difficult. For example, I had a dream about a man who kept wanting to leave the room. When I described the "man" in more detail (I was certain it was someone I'd never met) I ended up giving up a description of a person who looked exactly like me.

In many other dreams I've had, I'm always travelling. In a car, walking, on a train, in a truck - so the overall idea is one of a journey or a direction/path, rather than specifically what the car or train symbolises.

One way you could look at your dream (and I"m not in any way suggesting this is right or wrong, it may not feel right to you at all) is that you're on a boat and i presume it's moving forward? What are your feelings about the movement of the boat? Is it solid? Or flimsy? Is the floor moving up and down? Or you're not aware of its movement? What is your Dad doing? Is he ignoring you? Is he disagreeing with you? What is he wearing? Everytime you ask a question like "what is he wearing", think about how you feel about it. I know it sounds odd, but things often come up when you think about about it.

It's quite hard work actually. You'll probably find the more questions you ask yourself, the more little details you'll remember. They might not seem relevant - for example, is it daytime? Night time? But they might bring up emotions for you that are relevant. For example, a bright sunny day may evoke one relevant emotion, while a dark and stormy night might bring up something totally different.

I've got a book she wrote about dreams and working out meanings for yourself, if you'd like to borrow it.

Wow that is really interesting. Its a sunny day and dad just looks like dad (if you know what i mean). He isn't so much ignoring me as saying "don't be silly everything is fine" etc etc and i am not terrified but very uneasy about the whole situation.
The other dream i had was the boat was moored at a marina where there were lots of people and shops-like the viaduct. The boat started thrashing around in the sea and the inside of the boat was seperate to the outside (like it was inside a shell if you know what i mean) I jumped off the boat and then it lept out of the water and accross the rd and smashed through a shop. A woman came out of the shop bleeding from her eyes and nose and mouth and died in front of me. The feeling i got from the boat was that it was evil and possessed and i was trying to tell dad that something was wrong with it before it happened and he was saying nah its fine

Gosh, that's a lot going in your head Devan. Don't be too upset by seeing things like the lady covered in blood, it almost certainly doesn't symbolise you think anything bad is going to happen to anyone.

Did you know who the woman was? Can you describe her? Long hair, short hair, white, brown, yellow skin? Is she wearing a dress, a suit, a ball gown, what colour is it? Colour can be important (or not!).

As an example, often a lot of people and rooms and things in my dreams are a bright white, which can be symbolic of a particular emotion/s if they turn up a lot.

A few weeks ago I kept dreaming of my mum who passed away 7 years ago. I kept dreaming she was going to be taken off life support, it was awful. Last night however I dreamt of her and she was actually alive. There are times i really miss her and my sister who died 8 years ago. I lost them both pretty close together and I am kind of like an orphan now lol.
