Most pills have some sort of talc or chalk in them. Not so sure on capsules--that may just be active ingredient(s) and gelatin...

more taken from Trademe site wph .... Doing the math70,000 NZ'ers take / depend on Thyroid Replacement Therapy. *IF* in testing - 25% had adverse reactions to Eltroxin *THEN* potentially 17,500 NZ'ers will experience adverse reactions after 48 hours. I can not study to find out how it went over a more reasonable time frame - say 3 months. Personally, it took about 3 months for my symptoms to begin to show - then they got worse. How many people are having adverse reactions and don't know it is due to Eltroxin. Most of us here have been tested for all manner of horrors - none of which were thyroid related!

I thought that at least some of you may have commented, its quite interesting to see what these pills consist of, I will try to get the ingrediants of the Synthroid listed on the Trademe forum, so that I can copy it and put it here as well.

My mum has been taking the new version and seems to be having side effects, but she is on a few other things too so it could be a combination for her. I am on it also, however, so far no side effects. A friend who is a pharmacist said that though the mixture is different all the ingredients are safe, BUT the people who are having side effects could be due to the way our bodies metabolise the new drug. Having an underactive thyroid your metabolism slows down and this is what may be happening to some of those suffering side effects, its just not working in the same way as the old one. 88

Talk to your mums DR, as if she is having side effects I would be thinking that she will feel a hell of a lot better if she was changed from what she is taking to one of the other treatments, and I believe that Goldshield will be available at a reduced cost after the 1st of November. I cannot believe how much better I am feeling now, and would really recommend changing perscriptions, as not all suit us all.

Seems like there was something about this on Prime news yesterday, but I missed it, so did anyone else see the report that they had on there?

No, Prime News annoys me with it's 10 to 15 minutes of news and the rest of the time spent on rugby... I didn't see anything on TV3 News, tho'.

Was talking to my chemist today, and as I had printed off a form about Eltroxin, he was very interested in having a copy to look at, and the good thing is that it has the internet sites on it so he can look them up. Its nice to have a chemist that cares!

Have you considered Whole Thyroid Extract? Its cheaper than the current unfunded synthroid and I have to say I feel much more mentally positive on it and physically so much better. I was on the goldshield for a couple of weeks before I changed. Had been on the eltroxin for about a year prior to that. My GP was very obliging thankfully.
I won't go back to the just T4 meds again. My temp is coming up as it should and my blood pressure is coming down

Just a thought.

I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

Where would you get that whole thyroid extract from? is it a chemist obtainable thing, or what? I am good on the synthroid, and feel like a new person, and that is after only 3 weeks.

My specialist gets her supplies from somewhere in Auckland. It is very good. I get mine from her as needed as she has stocks at her office.
