Rover and Masport are my preference, 4 stroke. skip the chinese cheapies with funny names and get something with a Briggs and Stratton engine. 2 stroke... I don't tend to use them, and never bought a 2 stroke mower, but my grandma had one that started with "V" and had the engine faired into the houseing, that was pretty good, and I've seen others around that were pretty reliable.

Masport President 5000.
Hubby bought a new mower recently (the last one lasted for over 20 years) and after much research decided on the masport President 5000. Fairly expensive I'm afraid but he is very happy with it, it is easy to start and clean and does a good job. I understand it has a honda motor.
He has a ride on for the bigger areas but needed a mower for edges and aroung shrubs etc.
