Has anyone had experience/knowledge of a Keith Hay Home? I see them building in their yards by the side of the southern motorway when we are over the ditch, and I have found a floor plan of theirs I quite like, but I cannot find any blogs anywhere of people's experiences of them, good, bad or indifferent.

Good. I'm in one now. we leave it next month...

you can have them change the plans around a bit as far as internal layout goes. the lounge and kitchens here were shuffled around a bit, it's all part of their service.

We actually went and had a look round some of the Keith Hay homes at their site near Warkworth, we came away with some leaflets, price lists and floor plans, I quite liked The Bronte from their classic collection. It would be interesting hear of peoples experiences of Keith Hay homes, and any other home building companies. I know someone that has had a Jennian home built and they were very pleased with it.

L Plates, on your price list, does it have one for the Kingsley 3 bed and study plan? Do they do from the ground up, or is that part done by our builder?

Kiwi303 did you find yours cold to live in? Are they insulated or is that also an optional extra?

They have been around for years & years and have certainly kept up with the times. There are some great looking places being built by them in the Coromandel area..A1 (think thats the name) have lovely homes as well. Theres a beauty been built in our road and the people are really happy with it.

We have recently shifted into our new home. love it to bits.
It's a GJGardner home.

Only thing we would do differently is if possible, go and look at the design you have chosen being built before you decide. As we were the first in the waikato with this design it was not possible. We would have made a few minor changes, but woud recommend GJG to anybody

I'd be wanting recommendations for them from the area in which you will be building, as these package companies do seem to vary in building experiences depending on region/office! [:I]

Swaggie, on our price list it has Kingsley 130.08m2 $166,300.00, we also have the floor plan, it is a three bedroomed, I believe it is completely done by Keith Hay, usually at their site and then transported to yours. They have a website www.keithhayhomes.co.nz

They can also build at your site, but it is more expensive to do that.

I agree Tigger, choosing my words very selectively here, (we can go offline to discuss in greater detail as I know you will have more inside "gos" than I can get a hand on) but as you know what has happened to us recently, some things are ringing bells with the alternatives I have been given to date from people outside of the area whose interests are not looking after mine!.

I was recommended as one alternative to look at a floorplan by a company previously mentioned in this thread, however its very different to what we had, and materials not of similar quality either....

Umm, to say I have some concerns is an understatement but not just for those reasons alone, and so I thought about contacting Keith Hay homes and discussing the issues with them because they are still a family business, not franchise.... and so, having heard what I heard, I don't want to go down the other path. So to speak.... if that makes sense.;)

So we would still have to have the plumbing and "base" in place. That is still a good price though if it is the same as the picture on their website.

I was using the building price of $2000 per sq m that I was quoted by a local franklin builder which puts the replacement cost of ours over $210,000.

Swaggie, yes its Labour day here today. :)

If I remember correctly we were told the plumbing, the septic and a 5000 litre water tank are included. The house is built on piles so there is no base as such, just a reasonably flat site is required.

Swaggie all NZ houses have to be insulated. The minimum standards are dependent on where you live in the country.
