For another view, try www.weatherwatch.co.nz - it doesn't have all the info, but still good maps etc.
Looks like the worst of the rain has passed most of the North Island - it's now heading for the South. But the wind is coming back with a vengeance tonight - or at least here in the 'Naki.
I believe you had a tornado over your way - I thought Taranaki was the Tornado Capital! Hope you all fared OK today,
11 acres (4 in QEII Covenanted native bush), 15 sheep, 2 beefies, large vege gardens and a goat, and still no dog!

Oh, and uncountable wild birds - including fantails, swallows, yellowhammers, morepork, magpies, hawks, pukekos, and even quaill, pheasants and rainbow lorikeets [

I slept through the rain last night but it had to be massive given the amount of flooding on neighbour's properties on the flat and the river spreading far and wide. The forecast is better for the weekend though which will be a welcome relief for many up here.

Yes, this web site is totally overloaded every time a "Weather Event" occurs. Sometimes you get a message saying that the site is unavailable, on other occasions, it just times out.oskatd;187186 wrote: Is everyone else having problems getting it? A couple of times during the day I have managed to open it, but can't get to the rain radar - and it's very slow! Wondering if it's over worked?[}

The Met Service seriously need to upgrade their server capacity, otherwise we cannot get the weather information at times when it is most needed

The rain radar is only updated every hour anyway, it is not a live display. You can also choose a historical display showing the last 6 or 8 hours depending on which area you are looking at. Pretty much according to your snapshot idea, but only going back 8 hours rather than 24.Hestia;187249 wrote: If it is hard to get the new rain radar picture update,,why can't they have a snapshot taken every half hour last 24 hrs so you can see how it is developing?
Every half hour would be really nice, but somehow, I doubt that the Met Service will want to further increase the load on their already overloaded servers [xx(]
