Met service website

Is everyone else having problems getting it? A couple of times during the day I have managed to open it, but can't get to the rain radar - and it's very slow! Wondering if it's over worked?[}]

Definitely overloaded - everyone is checking the latest on what's coming. I have been "weather-watching" and sometimes the website is very slow, and sometimes it times out altogether.

For another view, try www.weatherwatch.co.nz - it doesn't have all the info, but still good maps etc.

Looks like the worst of the rain has passed most of the North Island - it's now heading for the South. But the wind is coming back with a vengeance tonight - or at least here in the 'Naki.

Yeah, I think so, thanks. It was down in the Mt near Bayfair if you know the area at all. We get the odd tornado through here too...

It's blowing fit to bust up here in Bombay at the moment with my oldest aluminum joinery surrounded Ranch sliders bending in the wind. Probably not a bad thing to have a bit of movement and I am totally relaxed as it has happened before with no breakages.

I slept through the rain last night but it had to be massive given the amount of flooding on neighbour's properties on the flat and the river spreading far and wide. The forecast is better for the weekend though which will be a welcome relief for many up here.

Yes, this web site is totally overloaded every time a "Weather Event" occurs. Sometimes you get a message saying that the site is unavailable, on other occasions, it just times out.

The Met Service seriously need to upgrade their server capacity, otherwise we cannot get the weather information at times when it is most needed

If it is hard to get the new rain radar picture update,,why can't they have a snapshot taken every half hour last 24 hrs so you can see how it is developing? that won't be that sought after but still info enough,,then if they have it you know where it is and can bookmark it,,

The rain radar is only updated every hour anyway, it is not a live display. You can also choose a historical display showing the last 6 or 8 hours depending on which area you are looking at. Pretty much according to your snapshot idea, but only going back 8 hours rather than 24.

Every half hour would be really nice, but somehow, I doubt that the Met Service will want to further increase the load on their already overloaded servers [xx(]

While on the topic, does anyone else find that there is a disconnect with the graph, the words and the % chance of rain? EG. at the moment it says there is a 100% chance of rain of more than 1mm on Sunday, but the forecast says cloudy periods with scattered showers....
