Adobe reader on Vista
my laptop runs Windows Vista, and i have Adobe Reader version 7. however i'm unable to open pdf files. i get a message saying there is an incompatability problem with vista and adobe 7, and it crashes the page.
so i went to update adobe to the latest version 9, and downloaded, but at 92% downloaded it stopped downloading:confused: (cant remember the message).. so i then rebooted the computer and started over again, and when I went to download again, got a message saying the download was already complete.:confused:. then i went into "programmes", and it looks like i still only have version 7.
i am confusaboodled.

I don't have Vista and therefore I'm still using Adobe Reader 7.0, but what I suggest you do is this:
- Uninstall Adobe Reader completely via Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs
- Download version 9 again and hopefully it will complete this time
Cheers,
Grant.

I think we are talking at cross purposes here DiDi :confused:DiDi;185141 wrote: Stop the bus!!!! I have just told you a porky about creating PDF. I had a scoot around Adobe (yuck) and found that 9 does not support Photshop in Vista Home Basic for example. Perhaps Grant if he has time can look in the Tech Support part and help more. If it can't support one component then what else is a problem?
- Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Reader are 2 very different things
I just checked Adobe's web site for the details on Adobe Acrobat Reader:
Select a version of Adobe Reader for Windows Vista, English:
Latest version
Adobe Reader 9
(includes Acrobat.com on Adobe AIR)
Previous version
Adobe Reader 8.1.2
Download information
File size: 33.5MB So, for Vista, you have a choice of version 8.1.2 or version 9.
I would try version 9 first, and if that causes problems, go for version 8.1.2.

All done.
firstly i uninstalled adobe 7, plus some other acrobat stuff installed today wasnt reader tho:confused::confused:.... then i installed adobe reader 9 (but read about it first to make sure it would be suitable....grant i couldnt see a download for 8, only for 9.)
anyway it has downloaded and to check all was ok, i tried to view a pdf on an email attachment (one of the ones i couldnt previously open), and all is working well.
thanks grant.
