Obviously, your e-mail client cannot decode the attachment, which is the reason you are seeing this goobledigook.
I suggest you ask your wife to send the e-mail again using PLAIN TEXT (under the FORMAT menu when composing a message). Then it should come through without any problems.
The above suggestion pre-supposes that you are using Outlook or Outlook Express. If it's some other e-mail client, you will have to ask someone else such as Ame or Wyseyes
