Got g-mail and read & store all e-mail in g-mail. Thats all very well and good but I need to be online everytime I do an e-mail and g-mail is ok but it can be so slow to load sometimes.
I'd like to be able for the e-mails to load into Moz thunderbird.
It was all set up for my old e-mail addie but not this one. How do I change it?
In simple easy steps please!

"Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
"Forwarding" ... type in email address you want/need to be forwarded too, decide if you want a copy kept in gmail or not (assuming yes), and
ETA : "Save Changes" (! Oops)
Voila. Robert's your mother's brother.
HTH.

xnet is my provider but g-mail is where my e-mails go

If so, just click on "forward" when a particular email is opened in gmail, and send it to your xnet address....
That's how I do it anyhow but I am no fancy pants when it comes to computers.

In gmail, at the top, right hand side of your screen, looking really closely, you'll find "Settings". Click that.
You'll get a 'page' up (for want of a better word) with tabs across the top. Click on the "Forwarding" tab on that screen, and you'll come to a 'page' with three options. The top one has to do with forwarding. There are two bullet points - can't remember the top one, the second one down is 'forward all emails to xxx this address and xxx a copy in gmail'. So, you type in the email address you want them to go too (whatever the address is that you use in Mozilla) and then decide if you want to keep a copy in gmail, or whether you don't.
Does *this* help?

When I had the xtra account all I had to do was open mozilla and all emails came there. there is somewhere in Mozilla that allows e-mails to come into there
I got as far as opening account settings in mozilla but I dont know what to type in, all my xtra details are still there
God why is it so confusing??

So, doh, looking at Mozilla I see this:
"Easy Access to Popular Web Mail Services
Thunderbird 2 makes it even easier to integrate and use various Web mail accounts from one inbox. Gmail and .Mac users can access their accounts in Thunderbird by simply providing their user names and passwords."
I would only be guessing, because I don't use Thunderbird, but there will be a setting there that you can tell it to go get your gmail emails. It will be under Settings, or Accounts, or something along those lines. It looks like you'll need to provide your gmail address and password.
I am sure ame will be able to help [

Um, why do you use Thunderbird? Is it just because you're on dial-up and you can edit etc whilst off-line? Just wondering ...

I actually managed to make some changes in the 'settings' followed all the instructions re Thunderbird but cant get e-mails to come from gmail
I want the e-mails to be stored on my computer not in Gmail, everytime I want to read one I have to go online its a blooming pain really. And I'm getting fed up with gmail too. takes so long to load sometimes!
Oh and by the way it takes no effort at all to confuse me where computers are concerned! I wish I didn't have one, but then I would miss you lot!

ditto.... so I am off to hang out my washing instead.

Log into gmail.
Top RHS - "Settings", then tab "Forwarding and POP/IMAP"
In here:
"Forwarding" - disasble it.
"Pop download" - Enable for all mail, and decide if you want to keep a copy in gmail (not a bad idea).
"IMAP" - disable it
Save your settings
Then go into thunderbird settings (or accounts or whatever)
your incoming (pop3) server is - pop.gmail.com
your outgoing server is - smtp.gmail.com
use your normal gmail username and password
yell if you need more help, or phone guiding
I see you shiver in anticip......................................................................................ation
