Blisters, broken, sore and aching back

Finally got my planter vegie boxes made, cartered over to the plot and filled.
I am so, so proud and pleased.
I filled them with newspapers, broken down horse shit and hay, then topped off with organic compost.
Have only 5 at the moment but plan more in the summer.
My husband is making a frame tomorrow to hold shade/frost cloth to keep the bloody chooks off.
I'm thinking of planting carrots, caulis, brocoulli and silverbeet.
Any other suggestions?

Bugger them! I gave a whole lot away last weekend. The ones I gave away were the ones that come inside and shit everywhere.
My friend wanted good layers... yeah they were, but also the ones that have no respect!
Chooks - gasp - I'm down to 15!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bliss :D

I wish to make a complaint!

Whilst I think your efforts are marvelous and applaud all your hard work! I now have a crick in me neck from viewing them with my head at right angles to me neck!

Would the management please draw up an OSH set of guidelines for safe viewing of photos. Many thanks, I obviously don't wish to be a pain in the neck!

Sundays me old mate! I hope you had a few for me! You could always come down here and help me plant out! :D

I have such a sore bloody back, but now have 8 of the buggers! My dad's advised me to buy seedlings, so I'm trotting off to the nursery this week. I can't wait!

They are the perfect size for a chicken ark to fit over them when they are not in use for growing - was that what you were planning on?? [:I]

Plants - parsley. Another seperate tub for Mint to go with the Roast Lamb. Maybe yet another tub for horseradish to go with the Roast Beef. Grin

I so loved gardening in Palmerston North when I lived there 20 years ago as the Winter killed all the nasty bugs off so no spraying etc. See if you can source yourself some pea straw (if it is still grown down there en masse) as it makes the most amazing mulch and your silverbeet will look as though they are elephant ears. Used it on all my gardens!

Didi pea straw is a horrendous price here - down in Canty where I come from we used to bale and cart it for kindy fundraisers and used to sell it for $2.50! Here it's about $12.
I got myself this organic compost which is made from rumen (is that the stuff in cows' stomaches) and bark. It's georgus!

I really wanna get some silverbeet and brocouli etc in now, but have to wait for Ant to build a frame to hold up the frost cloth (and to keep chicken, rabbits out).
So much impatience!

Bit of chuckle - I remember buying beautiful corn cobs for 4c each when I lived there! My neighbours used to bale pea straw and I would get the shed leftover before the new season. In exchange, I had a huge organic vegetable garden and 350 tree orchard. Good old bartering days - vegetables usually came back in the form of preserves (as a thank you) and the apples bought me the use of their tractor or pea straw etc. Miss those days!
