Grant - believe me - I am not fighting with you but maybe this is Vista.

My History records for March - 2 x 5th; 1 x 7th; 5 x 12th; 1 x 14th; 1 x 19th; 1 x 21st; 1 x 26th and 1 x28th. Eleven as Important and two as Recommended.

That is why I made the comment about it wanting to update all the time! So - turning them off under these circumstances is probably a good idea. Grin.

Spoook, I'm so sorry to hear about your father. If I can be of any help sorting out your laptop, I'd be happy to meet you in Auckland tomorrow.

I think people's experience of Vista varies depending on what they use their computer for. It appears that quite a few people have been hit by the same problem as you and have had to resort to system restore. [xx(]

Anyway, I'd be happy to have a look at your laptop and see if I can improve things for you - or at least ensure that the laptop is secure. We're just down the road and I wouldn't mind taking Pilot for a walk in Auckland Domain tomorrow.

Oh - and thank you for the compliment, DiDi. If you remember, my success was really due to my reading the manual and starting from scratch. [:I] I take no pleasure in fighting with a problem if there's an easy way to do it!

Kim.

Thanks DiDi, I stand corrected [:I]

I just assumed that Microsoft would have the same policy for Vista updates as for XP. It just goes to show how many problems there are in Vista which need fixing [:0]

Yep, I reckon so [^]

Ok, Vista Home Premium...... if that means anything.
The original offending update was loaded on my computer 25/2/08. I had not logged on since then until we were at Kate's. You would have thought they would have sorted the problem before now [:(!]
Kate did find several forums discussing this issue
www.google.com/search?q=vista+update+can...&rls=com.microsoft:*

I have turned off the updates, so now what were all those sites Grant????
I have the whole night ahead of me................................... :(

Spoook, I'm so sorry about your Dad, big hugs from me too.

I got your message - it must have been an old message, as I hadn't rung since the last time I spoke with you.

If you feel like talking (although I'm presuming you can't if you in a hospital), then give me a bell, I'm up for a bit (well, an hour or so anyway).

Thanks PG, might take you up on that tomorrow, depending how things go.
They only have square visitor chairs here, so I guess a sleep will be out of the question....... unless I can balance across two chairs [;)]

So much to do, for now, I can only be here and wait.

Been there Spoooky, I'm so sorry.

One "trick" as it were, is to ask if the nurses have any spare pillows and/or blankets, or if there is a lounger-type chair you can borrow from another room. Usually there are only a few in each ward, but ifyou can get one, the nurses are usually pretty good about it. At Ak hospital they have a big storage room and if we had to stay late, they let us borrow blankets so we were bit more comfy.

I'd ask, I'm sure they won't mind.

Hugsy

PG, while I was out moving my car, my nephew and his sister organised me a bed. A spare mattress, sheets, blanket and pillows. !!!
How spoilt am I???
I managed to get about 10mins sleep on it.
We are now on "critical standby" waiting for the final moment.
He has just had his last rights and been absolved of his sins, so is free to go.
Might try to get my head down as all the family in NZ are here and can wake me if needed.
Not even sure of the real time, I may have missed the clocks going back.

I hope you are ok this morning Spoook. God speed to your Dad. Your last post has me in tears but as much in happiness that he is surrounded by so much love as in sorrow for your family and your loss.
