Hamilton to Wanganui - how long to drive?

Heading to the thriving metropolis of Wanganui tomorrow, the first time ever - and have no idea how long it will take! Will need to take several breaks as have managed to upset an old back injury, but luckily the rental I have been given seems really comfortable as got to try it out this morning to Mt Maunganui .

Can anyone advise me on this?

about 5 hours or so... depends on the route really. an hour to te kuiti, then through Taumaranui and national park and south to wangas. Last time I went there it was via Mokau, Stratford and down the coast. A far better road than the hills through SH4.

When our son used to live in Hamilton, it used to take us about 6 hours to get there leaving from Otaki.

Never bloody again [xx(] that is a hell of a hike between Taumarunui and Wanganui with no coffee stops [:0] and even worse back the other way this morning leaving at 7am so I could get back here for a meeting in half an hour I am shattered - and I can see you guys have been soooo busy in my absence it's going to take an age to catch up on all the posts!
