The story thus far,
A few years ago I got invlved with an early childhood centre (one run by parents:rolleyes:)
Any way went to metings, da de da de da,,,,, went back to work for a year and when I came back the Centre was still struggling to try and move out of the local hall into their own facility.....along comes, we will call her muggens, back working part time, with plenty of time on her hands, not.
Well there was soooo much crap ( I can say that on here cause that's what animals do[:I]) Trying to get the building ready, having to do so much chasing around that should have been done by "others', the amount of beaurocratic,,,,,, paperwork , proccedures, policies etc that had to be found or written up from scratch, by who else, but none other than muggens.
A year goes by, we should have been in the new facility the year before, but anyways, we did get there, and as it was the centre's 40th anniversary, muggens pipes up and says "we should have a bit of do the same time as our Official Opening).
And things came to pass, muggens daughter starts school, and all is well.........not :(

They are still hounding me. OH knows me and he knows I can't say NO.

Until today we have ignored all requests of "ongoing help", but one of the ladies has just got an ear via an e-mail reply. That in no certain terms is "muggems" going to be held to ransom, on a guilt trip to continue to help.

Only my OH ( god bless him) knows the Blood, Sweat and Tears and money, but we are happy for that to remain a "silent" donation, as it would probably empty the Centres coffers.

But the worst of all, I'm going to cry now, is the damn time that it took, time you can'y bring back and time I should have spent with my pre-school daughter, so much for the early childhood centres, the amount of unsung voluntary work. [:(!]
And to top it off was some of the Assns attitude and arrogance towards those of trying to get a better place for our kids.[:(!]

OK, am fine now,

where's MMs wit when I need it............. :D

Maybe MM's wine bottle may be better :) As a couple who have spent thousands of hours in all the committee's clubs etc etc with our children over the years i can absolutely understand the frustration. You wonder so many times why you but other times you wonder what the outcome would have been for the kids if there weren't the people like you there because so many will never put time and effort into these things.
But at the end of the day maybe the answer does lie in the wine bottle :)

4 acres with Garage/sleepout, a pond with ducks and frogs, lots of trees ready to burst into life in spring and lots of garden beds.

You know yor rite. :D
Not so sure bout what wine we got, but we bought some duty free spirits the other week.
I am from a family of women, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., who seem to end up at higher than "just committee member" levels. It must me in me genes or tattooed across me face, or someone up there has a rope tied to both hands pulling them up into the air, While another rope attached to mouth is saying "I'll Do It". :(
Trouble is, you hit "it" on the nail, when I resigned because Aimee started school, they were running round like scared cats, when it came to the AGM, I do recall saying though that I would be there if they needed to know anything. But what really annoyed me was a comment along the lines of "not leaving it to all the new ones to do" ...heeeello[}:)]
Which reminds me it's about time, I downloaded all those darn policies I had to write up onto a disc, and hand it over, will free up some "bites" on my computor, :D

Aye it's a thankless task sometimes innit!
When I had my preschool the amount of time it took up initially was horrendous, my family took second place for months, overtime it improved and I was able to delgate stuff out! What really got to me about it all and my family is the worst! We would have admin days at the beginning of term to set up etc, this was in term time only, never in the holidays! The amount of times people said I dunno you have all that time on holiday and then take days off! Boy did that and does that really make me mad!
I worked out I was spending more time with their kids than my son. And for those that think any teacher or child carer should give up their time spent with their families really are assholes!
Okey now I've had a vent! Phew!

Hey PRU2 ya know what ya need to cheer ya up doncha???

I'd love a piglet - do they fit in jiffy bags to post to wellington? ;)

PRU2 - send them a detailed invoice of your time and money to get your point across. Then say - I won't charge you for it if you leave me the hell alone! Trouble is, no one wants to be the leader, though they may be happy to follow, or help. Its the commitment they don't want. You've had your term in office, time for a new person/general election.

Just kidding :D , OH's birthday in April, imagine the face, if I handed him one of those wee piggies with a bow tied round it's wee kneck.
How big do they grow, how much do they eat, can they be taught to bring up the paper, do you have to replace the nose ring, what..., when..... do they.... [}:)] :) He heeheheheh

Pru2, I used to get put upon because I am a 'safe pair of hands' to get things done [:I] and I had to learn to say 'no' and sit on my hands at meetings when they called for volunteers. Because after a while people don't wait for you to offer, they just assume you will do it [:(!]

I got so bogged down last year that I started a process of getting myself out of absolutely everything I didn't want to be involved with. If I could, I dropped it like a hot cake. If I couldn't, I gave a definite time frame within which I would be stepping out, and after that, no-one could expect me to be involved.

I did find that whenever I have gone part-time, all of a sudden the unpaid work would start emerging :( I have learned now that I will voluntarily do stuff that I want to, but not allow myself to be dragged into the vortex by default. I have also learnt that there are plenty of things that people will pay for your time to do if you put your foot down, but they are also happy for you to do for free if you don't draw the line somewhere!! I am going to have to sit on my hands too tigger, I was told by OH not to come back from the commitee meeting with a job [}:)], and guess what ,
the only reason I took the job was the chairman/lady, got the s#**^# [:(!]and tossed it in, and "nobody" else wanted it, or had the inclination to do it.
The good thing to come out of it was, I got them their #**^%*#* licence, contacted over 120 + past members, and we had 3 of the 4 original ladies, from 40yrs ago, come along to the opening.
Everyone who was there thoughorly enjoyed themselves and it was a great day.[^][^][^]

I don't know if my post is within the spirit of Pru2 situation, but last year, for the 4th year running, I was putting in some serious hours at E's school voluntarily, and it suddenly dawned on me (being one of a very few in number who were turning up at school to assist regularly), that most of us were being told we were not required on the days of school excursions (some would have been really good to go on) whilst other parents who didn't help at the school on those days, were immediately available to assist on the excursions....[}:)]

So this year I am doing nothing, and have put my name down for an excursion to Sydney next Friday. :D

Wunna take a bet whether I get to go or not?

Thinking about it, I have had quite a bit of paid work over the years lead on from my volunteer efforts...which isn't to be sneezed at! But I figure now, ditch it if you don't enjoy it :)
